Matthew 5:42 - Give to him that asketh thee and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not thou away.
Responsibility stretches beyond just looking out for ourselves and our immediate families. Often people show less concern for other people because they are not related to them. One thing we must learn to understand is that one of the reasons why God helps us is so that we can be of help to others as well. We are called to do good works and one of them entails that we reach out to people in need especially when they ask for our help.
Luke 6:35 - But love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again. Your reward shall be great and ye shall be the children of the highest, for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Our good works to people do not go unrewarded. However, we shouldn't do it for the reward attached to it but let it be done out of love. When we lend to people we expect a return of what we've given out but Christ said we should give without expecting anything coming back. We see another rendering to this in the old testament also;
Exodus 22:25 - If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shall not be to him as a usurer, neither shall thou lay upon him usury.
Sometimes we should be considerate and let somethings that we give out go especially to people that we are more privileged than. God can use someone else to give us back that which we have let go of and in much more folds.
