What our children become in life is completely our responsibility, that is why the bible says train up a child in the way he should grow, when he is old, he will not depart from it. If we train our children in the ways of God they will grow and continue in it. But for us to teach them such ways we have to know the laws of God for ourselves first. Our lives must be the first example.
