People think hearing is just to listen but it doesn’t end there. What hearing truly and simply means is that to understand, assimilate or to receive a particular information or warning.
Sadly, people hear the word of God but they do not listen because they want to do things their own way and stay away from the warnings of God.
We can also see or compare not hearing the word of God as idolatry. Yes, idolatry is the belief in some other gods like the one that people carve with their hands.
Let’s think about it. If you are not abiding by the rules and regulations of God, you’re definitely listening to someone else and this is why idolatry can be compared to hearing but not listening to the word of God.
There is a part of the Bible which explains other things that idolatry can mean. Let’s check the Bible, in the book of Colossians 3:5 which tells us that; “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:”
This explains to us that idolatry does not only mean bowing down before other gods. It can be any of these things listed above.
Also, in the Bible, Ephesians 5:5 makes us know that; “For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”
To not be a part of those who practice idolatry, you have to listen to God and do all what that pleases Him.
