What I learnt during the course of the teaching yesterday by pastor Eli made a relief in my heart. Most times, due to ignorance and laziness to study the world of God we tend to imagine the judgement of God to that of man, as a result making the kingdom of God look difficult to man,
For example, the woman that committed adultery in the bible was judged by men to be stoned to death, but by God she was seen to be forgiven and shown mercy. Jesus asked the people who brought the woman to be crucified saying “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her”
No one from the youngest to the oldest could cast a stone at her.
During the course of the teaching, it was clearly stated that we have no right to physically or emotionally deal with our fellow men when they fall into sin.
According to this bible chapter, our body is the temple of God, if we fall into sin that means we sin against God not man. In some churches they stand on the altar and confess their sin to the congregation. By this practice they believe that God has totally forgiven you.
I have witness this practice twice when I attended a choir congress in 2009, a choir brother and a sister had sex in their campus, after several teaching by our choir pastor, I could remember he made it plain that day, saying “ except you publicly confess your such sin you are not totally forgiven ” after the message the lady involved came out openly and confess to the congregation, because of the shame and stigma the guy denied it at the moment and later accepted 3 weeks from that day.
This was a shock to me, standing in a crowd of over 500 youth and confessing your sin.
Someone like me, even before climbing up the stage I might faint and there will be a call for emergency. The bible never commanded us to confess our sins to the congregation, by this practice, some Christians will never confess their sins till death. In the above bible chapter David confessed his sins unto God, as we all know it was recorded in the bible that David became a man after God's heart,
David never confessed his sin to any congregation, if confessing our sins to the congregation was very necessary David wouldn’t have been a man after God's heart.
He sinned against his body which is the temple of God, sinning against the temple of God means sinning against God, so you have to ask God for forgiveness.
Secondly, the second person you should ask for forgiveness or confess your sins to is the person you sinned against, this is more like restitution, the bible said so in this chapter
The bible said we should confess our fault to another, if you have stolen from a brother. After confessing to God you have to confess to that brother you stole from.
And pray one for another, the NIV bible translation clearly stated to two persons in action and the second person should be the person you sinned against (maybe someone you stole from or someone you cheat or lie against) it says in chapter 16 of NIV “therefore confess your sin to each other” not to the congregation, not to your father, not to your mother, not to your pastor.
Thirdly, note, it is very important to take this step, everyone on earth desires to prosper in whatever they do, confessing your sins has something to do with prosperity.
For a Christian that already knows the truth and refuses to take this step of confession, the mercy of God might not be that sufficient for you.
Confessing to each other might still be difficult for some Christians. Listen, I want you to know that there’s life after death, would you hinder yourself from getting to heaven because of that little money you stole that is not worth your eternal life?
Your ETERNAL life is more expensive than that sin you could not confess.
Lastly, after confessing to God, pray to him and ask him if you should tell the other person, every man has the ability to hear from GOD, most times we don’t pay attention when God speaks, because we are overwhelmed with issues of life, if God says you should confess to him, den you have to do so no matter what it takes, because God will not just say YES if he has not created space in the person's heart to forgive you, he is not a God of confusion, but if God says no, den you have to move on and never go back to your vomit.
