Here is the lessons i learnt from the teachings of Brother Eli of blessed memory on the question “what does the bible say about serving in the military?”
Bro Eli pointed in his teachings that this question is asked from a short sighted view of the military, and that has to be corrected before going on to answer the question, he showed us from
2 peter 1:8-9 “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive(A) in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.(B) 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind,(C) forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.”
The above passage shows us that it’s possible to have a short sighted view on things due to lack of knowledge.

He further explained that the military isn’t an organization of death, it’s primary purpose is to protect lives and property, If you are of the notion that it’s an organization of death, this is where the shortsighted view is coming from.
On the issue of killing, brother Eli made us to understand that, if you have to kill to protect a life, then that won’t be a crime, if you can avoid killing and still apprehend the perpetrator, then that should be considered first before resorting to killing. Self defense is an equal right of any living organism. It’s an intelligence given to us by God, although our hands cannot kill, it can produce weapons that would enable us protect ourselves and in this, the military is important because it’s function is to protect.
In Luke 3:14 the bible also made us to understand the main teachings for soldiers
“Then some soldiers asked him, "And what should we do?" He replied, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely--be content with your pay."
In conclusion, from my point of view, it isn’t bad/sinful for a Christian to be part of the military.
