The apostles where speaking in he language they knew but the listeners were understanding it in their native language.

Nowadays, churches speak in languages that can not be understood by anyone, including themselves. This is based on their emotional expressions.

According to the Bible, speaking in tongues is a way of translation to enable better understanding when teaching the gospel of Christ.
