1 Corinthians 7:4&5 (NIV)
The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.
Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Fasting is an act you do together with prayer. Don't just fast without praying. Don't just fast and pray as well, but while fasting and praying, give unto the needy, show compassion to others, forgive others, help the poor, clothe those who need it.
For a husband and wife, when you fast and pray, abstain from sexual relations. Both couples should agree for the duration of the fasting to abstain. A lot of kindness should be done by us when we fast and pray. We can let go of the oppressed, forgive others, even forgive their debts, charge no interest, feed the hungry and clothe the naked. You are expected to show kindness to others if you are to attract the same from God.
Matthew 6:16 (NIV)
“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
Fasting has its own physical advantages too as it helps our body - builds our immune system, cleanses our intestines and gives less work to our organs. It also has its spiritual significance and God loves it. It is a way of doing away with the act of the flesh.
What you do when fasting and praying matters to God than just the act of fasting.
Husbands should love their wives as Christ loves the Church while wives should respect their husbands too. Husbands should love their wives as their own body and since they won't want to hurt their bodies then they should learn not to hurt their wives. The good character of a woman can change the heart of any man.
Women are expected to cover their heads because the husband is her head while the husband's head is Jesus and the head of Jesus is God. A man is not expected to cover his head.
We were also told to keep the sanctity of the home and not use abusive words against each other so our children won't pick it up and think that is the way to live. We are to serve as worthy examples to our children.
Men are told not to keep long hair while woman can keep their long hair.
