These are the lessons learnt from the Bible Study held on Zoom and you can watch the video of the lessons below:

In today's Bible Study we were told two important things and I will make it brief.

  1. About Tithe.
  2. About speaking in tongues.

The first one, we were made to understand that tithing is for the Israelites not for us in this dispensation. As much as giving to God is important, we were told that we should give willingly and not grudging.

Malachi 4:4 (NIV)

“Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.

They are the things He commanded Moses for the Israelites and we are not Israelites but by the virtue of the death of Jesus, as gentiles, we have been made heirs to God's Kingdom.

Abraham that gave tithe to Melchizedek, he did it willingly, not grudgingly and he wasn't compelled to do it. He simply used his discretion to give something fitting.

Another lesson that was treated was on speaking in tongues. A sister from Ghana asked the question because she was told in her local assembly that if you are not speaking in tongues, it means you don't have the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:20-23 (NIV)

idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

We have different gifts and the Bible made us understand this. The first fruit of the Spirit is love and if you have all the gifts of the Spirit, even speaking in tongues and there is no love, it is useless. Once you have the Spirit of love, you have the gift of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14: 26-28 (NIV)

What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.
If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.
If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God.

We also learnt about those who say there are some animals that cannot be eaten. The Bible made us understand that there is no animal that is not pure and we are to receive them with thanksgiving.

1 Timothy 4:4 (NIV)

For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

Mark 7:19 (NIV)

For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)

Thank you for your time.
