A surprise is better than a promise if it it not fulfilled with the whole of the heart.by force. By making no promises, it enables you to save little by little, and conveniently please your children. A child will be highly pleased to receive a gift which they do not expect, other than to receive a promise which they know is very hard to get because you had to suffer just to fulfill your promises made to them.
This is somehow similar with dealing with God. He does not want us to take a vow which cannot be done by us as we have said it.
Ecclesiastes 5:4
When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay that which thou hast vowed.
5.Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
Making the vow is not doesn't really move God. What He is moved by are our actions. He is more interesting in us fulfilling the vow made. If we are not certain of doing this He says that we should not even bother in the first place in making the vow.
Proverbs 13-12.
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick,
but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.
When a promise is not fulfilled at once,
there is a longing there that may pain the heart. But then, when the desire comes, it becomes a tree of life. So a desire fulfilled is joy. It is a tree of life. It is best not promise, because you do not know what is going to happen tomorrow. You might fail on your promises.
