MCGI Topic Review | How do we understand the bible?

The interpretation of the Bible cannot come in a day. It is a journey, which requires patience, humility, prayer and serious study. I have wasted much time reading and meditating on this and I understood that the bible is not just a normal book. It is the Word of God, which was sent to us, to correct us, teach us, and to give us hope. There is a teaching on 2 Timothy 3:16 which states that, All scripture is inspired of God, and is profitable, as it is psychology teaching, refutation, reprimand, education to righteousness. This implies that I do not only lie on the Bible and read some stories, I am being taught Godly things on how to live my life.

The use of the Holy Spirit to aid us in understanding the Bible is one of the most critical means. The deep meaning of the Word of God cannot be explained by human wisdom only. 1 Corinthians 2:14 states, the natural man is not able to receive the things of the Spirit of God, because they are spiritually known. In learning this verse, I understood that I have to pray first to read the bible and seek God to get an understanding. And even simple verse may be baffling, unless directed by Him.

Comparison of the Scripture with Scripture is another important key to understanding the Bible. The Bible makes itself clear when we sit down and search it. The Bible states in Isaiah 28: 10, that precept must be on precept, line line, here a little, there a little. I have also understood that I should not hurry when I do not comprehend a verse. Rather, I ought to seek other verses, which discuss the same thing. Bit by bit, one can understand the truth.

And last, obedience assists in comprehending. The more we practice the bible teachings, the more it becomes, to us, sensible. John 7:17 reads, that, when any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine... I have observed in my life that when I attempt to live by the Word of God, my knowledge becomes rich. Our final answer to this is that we get to know the bible by praying, studying, being guided by the Holy Spirit and living an obedient life. It is a long process but I will also strive to keep on learning, searching, and increasing in the Word of God.
