MCGI Topic Review | Is There a Human Being in Heaven Now?

Many people ask themselves, is there human being in heaven now? This is a question that has been raised in the mind of many people especially when they think of death, eternal life and what happens after we leave this world.

As I listened to the MCGI teaching about this topic, I devoted numerous hours to the Bible and deep thinking since I was eager to know what the Scriptures really state. The subject is not subjective or emotive, but rather, it has to be grounded in the word of God.

Among the things that I learned is that the Bible explicitly informs us of what transpires in the case of the death of a person. In Ecclesiastes 9:5, we can read: the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything.

This verse made me realize that the dead people are not in heaven or in any other place and they are not aware of anything. They are just resting waiting the resurrection. This already informs us that the ordinary human beings who are dead are not in heaven.

Another point that the MCGI lesson provided was that Jesus Himself said that none of His disciples has gone to heaven until Himself. In the book of John 3: 13, Jesus affirmed that no man hath ever gone up to heaven, but he who has come down out of heaven.

This verse is very clear. It demonstrates that there was no human being that had reached heaven as of then. Only Jesus Christ came to heaven and went back to heaven after he resurrected.

As I went on in my studies, I realized that great servants of God in the bible are not yet in heaven. As an illustration, the Acts 2:34 expressly states that, David is not ascended into the heavens. David was a man of Godly heart but the Bible says he does not exist in heaven. This made me realize that heaven is a promise awaited in future and not in the present.

The other lesson I had is that resurrection will not occur prior to the coming of Christ. In the book 1 Thessalonians 4:16, it reads, The dead in Christ shall rise first. This implies that individuals who have died in the faith are only waiting in the grave. They will also ascend at the return of Jesus. It is not until after the resurrection that the faithful will go to heaven.

As I was working on this theme in detail, I was comforted by the fact that God has a perfect plan. No one is either in heaven or in hell at this moment. All are just dozing off in death awaiting the time of God.

According to the Bible and the MCGI teaching, the answer is easy: there are no human beings in heaven, at the moment, with the exception of Jesus Christ. Everybody is awaiting the resurrection. God is right at the right time and will deliver His promises at the right time which will be the end.
