MCGI Topic Review | Searching For God

Seeking God is one of the treks that we all make in life. I think that all people at one time have a strong instinct to know the Creator, to comprehend the meaning of life and get the real peace. Seeking God is not necessarily smooth. It demands sincerity, modesty and a good heart. Personally, it is a process that can give not only knowledge but also hope and happiness.

Jeremiah 29:13 tells us that when we seek God with all our heart we will find him. This verse indicates that God desires that we should pursue Him with utterness. It does not only mean praying and attending church, but longing to learn about Him and his ways. I have also understood that the matter of seeking God is more heart related than ritual. In the genuine attitude of seeking to know Him, He asserts that we shall find him.

Most individuals seek God in the wrong directions. Others seek Him in money, prosperity, or popularity hoping that it will be able to satisfy the void in the heart. But I have come to know that soul can never be satisfied with them. It is only through a relationship with God that an individual can be truly satisfied.

The Bible states in Psalm 42: 1 that, as the deer thirsts after the running of water, so my soul thirsts after you, my God. Our hearts were made to desire God just as the deer desires water. Nothing can make a person happy permanently, and only God can bring peace and fulfillment.

Patience and persistence are also a necessary requirement in the search of God. At times there can be the feeling that He is distant, or unfamiliar with the prayers. I have had some moments of doubt and confusion when I wondered whether God does listen to me.

But I have learnt that even when there is no talking, God is working. Isaiah 55: 6 challenges us, seek the Lord when he may be found, call on him when he is at hand. The verse makes me remember that God is always close, he is always ready to be found by people who really want to find him.

The study of the Word of God is one of the ways of coming to God. The Bible acts as a lamp that helps us with our steps. According to Psalm 119:105, your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my way. I have discovered that whenever I read the bible with an open heart, it enables me to know the character of God, His love, and His plans towards me.

Prayer is also important. It is not merely a matter of demanding something, but rather a matter of developing a personal relationship with God. I have an opportunity to share my heart, my fears, and my thanksgiving through prayer and feel that He is guiding me.

Humidity is another aspect that is important in the search of God. We have to agree that we are not sure of what everything is and we require the wisdom of God. The book of Proverbs in 3:5-6 informs that one should trust the lord with all the heart and should not lean on the understanding of own self in all the ways; that one should submit to him and he will make the ways straight. I have also been taught that as soon as I give my life and my plans to God, He guides me to the correct path. The process of searching God is not about mastering the life, but trusting the God fully.

To conclude, the search of God is a cardial one. It involves honesty, tolerance, modesty and determination. We should not be searching Him in worldly things but we should go out there all. In my personal quest, I have discovered that God is omnipresent and is always willing to manifest Himself to people who are genuinely seeking Him. The bible is explicit: when we seek God in all our heart, we will find him and in him, we will have real peace, purpose and joy.
