One thing about hardship and tribulations is that it comes from men who are greedy, wicked and self centered. But even at that, we can also experience hardship and tribulations from God as well.
However, the hardship and tribulations that come from God is quite different from that of men. This is because the hardships that come from come with good and better ending. In fact, it comes with glory at the end, but that of men is only meant to destroy the fellow men.
In the book of Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us, we were told about the suffering of the present time which cannot be compared with the glory shall be revealed to us at the end.
What this means is that God's hardship comes with glory that would be revealed to us if we can exercise patience when faced with hardship and tribulations from him.
Also, in the book according to Romans 5:3-5 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
In the above scriptural verses, we were made to understand how tribulations worketh patience in us which at the end brought about experience which is the best teacher and in this our experiences, we have hope which otherwise help us not to be ashamed.
In conclusion, what Bro. Eli is trying to let us know is that, not every tribulation is of men and not is of God too, although that of men is meant to destroy their fellow men, but when we talk about the one that cometh from God, we should be certain that it comes with glory, patience, experience, hope that would not put us ashamed which would in other way round be of great benefits to our lives.

We must have patience when we're passing through hardship and suffering in this life because God wants to bring something good out of it
