As a community of God's people, I want to share a little I learnt about God's love for mankind.
The concept of God sending his son to die is a central tenet of Christian belief. It's a story that is told and retold throughout the world, and it raises some important questions about the nature of God and the reasons behind his actions. One of the most pressing of these questions is why God didn't simply destroy the world, rather than going to the extreme of sending his own son to die.
To answer this question, it's first necessary to examine the Christian doctrine of salvation. According to this doctrine, human beings are separated from God by sin, which is the result of disobedience and rebellion against God's will. This sin creates a gulf between humanity and God that cannot be bridged by human effort or good works. The only way to restore the relationship between humanity and God is through the forgiveness of sin, which can only be accomplished through the sacrifice of a perfect and sinless being.
This is where the story of Jesus comes in. According to Christian belief, Jesus was the Son of God, who came to earth in human form to live a perfect life and then to offer himself as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity. By dying on the cross, Jesus paid the penalty for human sin and provided a way for people to be reconciled to God.
But why did God choose to send his son to die, rather than simply destroying the world and starting over? There are several possible explanations for this, which we will explore below.
First, it's possible that God didn't want to destroy the world because of his love for humanity. The Bible tells us that God created the world and everything in it, and that he saw that it was good. Despite the sin and rebellion of humanity, God still loves his creation and desires to save it. Sending his son to die was an act of love, a way to show his love for humanity and provide a path to salvation.
Second, it's possible that God didn't want to destroy the world because he wanted to preserve human free will. If God had simply destroyed the world and started over, he would have been depriving people of their ability to make choices and to exercise their free will. By sending his son to die, God allowed people to continue to make choices, while also providing a way for them to be reconciled to him.
Third, it's possible that God wanted to demonstrate his justice and his mercy. Justice demands that sin must be punished, but mercy allows for forgiveness and reconciliation. By sending his son to die, God demonstrated both his justice and his mercy. Jesus took the punishment for human sin, satisfying the demands of justice, while also offering a way for people to be forgiven and reconciled to God.
Finally, it's possible that God sent his son to die as a way to demonstrate his power over death and sin. By raising Jesus from the dead, God demonstrated that he had power over death and that he could conquer sin. This was a powerful demonstration of God's power and authority, and it provided hope for humanity that they too could be freed from the power of sin and death.
In conclusion, the question of why God didn't destroy the world, but sent his son to die, is a complex one that requires careful consideration. It's likely that there are multiple reasons for God's actions, including his love for humanity, his desire to preserve human free will, his desire to demonstrate his justice and mercy, and his desire to demonstrate his power over death and sin. Whatever the reasons, the story of Jesus is a powerful reminder of God's love for his creation, and it provides hope for humanity in the face of sin and death.
