Vow is one thing that God doesn't take lightly. We shouldn't be careless whenever we make a vow. A vow is a personal commitment between us and God. In churches today, we often see people trooping to the altar to make a vow but at the end of the day the fail to fulfill them.
We don't come out to make a vow because other people are doing the same. No one should be under pressure whenever they are making a vow.
Numbers 30:2 - If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
The repercussions of breaking a vow can be really unpleasant. It is much better if we do not make the vow in the fist place instead of making the vow only not to fulfill it. We should endeavor to take vows seriously whenever we make them.

Don't make a vow just because others are doing so, the consequences of not redeeming it will not be pleasant although.
