Bible reference: Number 35:10-17

As a security guard, a person in the police force, or a military personnel, it is their sole duty to protect lives and property at all cost. Protection of live and properties can be quite limited if you are not provided with a weapon. You are provided with a weapon incase you encounter danger while on duty. If peradventure you are faced with a threat, the next line of action as a security personnel is the defend yourself.

It's impossible to carry out your duty if you can't protect yourself in the first place. Self defense is not a sin according to the bible. You are simply carrying out your duty. In a situation whereby someone takes someone else's life accidentally, God made provision for such person called a place of refuge; we see this in the book of Numbers 35:10–17.

There are certain instances whereby someone may kill another person unintentionally; like a lorry driver who accidentally runs over someone on the road. This was the case with the Israelites. That's why God asked sent them to a city of refuge in order to shield them from vengeance from the people that are close to the deceased.

But when it comes to matter of a security guard, he is in his right and doesn't need to seek refuge anywhere for discharging his duties. However, the security personnel doesn't necessarily need to shoot a criminal at delicate parts of their bodies that is capable of killing them unless they are left with no choice. You can simply disable them and hand them over to the law to exercise justice.
