Today, people often get involved in fasting and prayers. There's is absolutely nothing wrong with this at it is one of God's instructions given to us to observe. In past times, even before the existence of Jesus on earth, instructions were given by God to His people to fast. Fasting is one of the things we should observe as Christians. But where the problem lies sometimes is that people do fasting in the wrong manner at times.
But whenever we fast, we should not fast amiss, neglecting the significance of what we are doing. Some people disregard this. Some are even unaware of certain acts that are prohibited as long as fasting is concerned. In Isaiah 58:6-8, we are given an insight on the manner of fasting that is required of us by God. It's not enough to just fast and pray, but to also maintain the principles that are involved in it.
Matthew 6:16 - Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
God is not in support of those who carry out fasting hypocritically. If our fasting is unto God, then we should have no business with anyone around us. God frowns at such forms of fasting. People who engage in such should be rest assured that all they are doing are in vain. This is the reason why many don't get results after carrying out the exercise.
God is always willing to grant us our request but we should ensure to do things in accordance with God's ordinances.
Fasting is good but we should not fast as the hypocrites
