We are living in a world full of addictions. People are addicted to many things. There are those who are addicted to power. This kind of addiction has caused so much political damage to many underdeveloped countries. The problem of underdevelopment in some of the African countries is caused by this evil addiction. We have seen the effects of this power-drunk addiction in the way our presidents and political office holders hold unto power.
Another form of addiction which has caused serious problems to the youths is the addiction to drugs. Many young people have given themselves to smoking and drinking dangerous substances that are extremely harmful to their body. This form of addiction is a serious menace to the economic development of our countries. The intake of hard drugs damages brain cells and causes mental retardation. Our young people should avoid giving themselves to such addiction like this
To overcome addiction, we must give ourselves to the study of the word of God. The word of God cleanses us. Jesus Christ said that we are cleansed by the words that he has spoken unto us. When we study the Word of God, the word of God illuminates our lives and flushes out all forms of darkness from our lives.
Also, we need the Holy Spirit to help us to overcome the spirit of addiction. When we are controlled by the Holy Spirit, addiction will not influence our life. People who are unable to control themselves are not influenced by the Holy Spirit. We need to submit our lives to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
