It is getting better and better - Rebutia Albiflora

Some cacti grow big, have huge, colourful petals and sometimes some fragrance too.
Some stay tiny and have small, simple flowers. But they are just so irresistibly adorable!

I have been showing this one every year (I think) since I got it and every year it looks better and better with more flowers too.

Some time ago I read that they do not produce seeds an the only way to propagate them is through cuttings. Which is quite fine as they grow pretty fast with multiple new shoots every year. But why the flowers then?

Besides that they are very pretty of course with delicate, almost see through petals and some pink hits here and there.
They do not last long, just a couple of days and have no fragrance.

The largest of the little balls is the size of a chickpea. So you can imagine how small they all are. The whole point is to let them grow and spread and eventually create a pillow of little chickpea balls. Like here for example - this is something I am really looking forward too.

The mass in the pot is actually three plants. I got 4 or 5 single little balls some years ago and this what what I have now. Two died in the meantime. Three are doing just fine.

The photos I took a couple of weeks ago. I waited until the stop blooming an decided o repot it (no photos of the process again..). You can see on the photos how close they are to the edges already. The smallest stems are completely squashed and had no more room to grow. This was about 10 cm pot.

The two largest clumps I put together in a bigger pot and the smallest one I potted separately in a small 5 cm pot. I hope it is enough room for them for at least a year, though in this case I wouldn't mind repotting them again next spring. It would only mean they grew fast enough and are asking for more room.

Besides the spines are super soft, like stiff brush bristles and do not hurt. Pure pleasure to work with this one.

Hoaa, I see you always have succulent blooms. I have a lot of succulents and none of them bloom. can you give me tips? Is it because the summer all year round makes the succulents unable to live well?

Hi, it is possible that they just want to grow instead of blooming since it is always warm. Some of them bloom just at the specific time of the year and need temperature change to make them grow flowers.
I am not sure how to make them bloom in your climate. Maybe with some specific blooming fertilizer? I think it is worth the try :)

Super!
I love this mammillaria, I have 3 of them
Mine are blooming too.

They are so pretty, aren't they? :)

Yes!
They are beautiful and cute!
I have them in different shades, one is more white, others are a pinkish-cream shade.

So beautiful 🤩 even when they are so small… the flowers are stunning.
Great captures @ewkaw 👋🏻😊 have a nice Thursday evening.

They are nice indeed :)
Thank you!

You are welcome @ewkaw 👋🏻😊 have a great weekend!

Wooow. These are amazing. They look so good. Thanks for sharing these beauties.

Thank you :)

You are welcome

very beautiful plants planted in pots. I really like this portrait best friend's picture.

Thank you!

You ur welcome

What a satisfaction dear friend @ewkaw to see this beautiful plant grow and improve year after year, and the best you could do in transplanting, that means more flowers for the next season.
I came to think that the thorns did damage to the skin, it's a good thing that they are soft as a bristle of a brush
I appreciate that you share these beautiful images and all this experience
Have a beautiful weekend

I really hope there is more next spring. They look amazing when they all open together :)
Thanks and have a great weekend as well!

I have a similar one, but mine produces huge red seedpods with black seeds inside. I never tried growing these seeds though 😉

Show yours!
Mammillarias have cool red berries. Maybe it is one of them...

I grew some from seed and some are already 7 years old. But it takes a lot of time and much more care... don't think I will do it again anytime soon. Unless some of mine have some seeds and I will have no heart to throw it away :p

I used to be so keen to grow anything from seeds, but that keenness has somehow drifted away.

I have no idea what name that one I have has. They never say names when you buy them and this one in particular I got from my uncle. It was hilarious really, cause it bloomed for me while it was still in a jar in a paper tissue my uncle pack it for me for the journey. My uncle was so surprised cause it hasn’t bloomed for him for years. Probably needed a change in environment or a country 😂

I’ll write a post when it blooms again 😁

Very delicate and pretty flowers. One needs a lot of patience and dedication to look after these tiny cacti.

Thank you! They are great plants to gro. No mess and most don't take much space :)

Fantastic!!!... 😍
