Greetings to all the Hivers of this fabulous community of passionate about succulent plants. In today's article I want to present some of the results obtained from crossing Huernia zebrina with different hybrids of the same genus. Huernia zebrina is one of the most commercialized plants of the genus worldwide due to the beauty of its flowers and, therefore, it has caught my interest. Said interest focuses on the genetic improvement of the species with the obtaining of new hybrids of it through crosses. The fundamental objective of this improvement I am focusing on obtaining fast-growing plants, with much more showy flowers (larger size) and attractive color patterns. The results obtained so far promise good specimens with flowers almost twice the size of the common species and more vivid colors. Many of them are already being commercialized in the national market and will soon be included in collections in Mexico.
Saludos a todos los Hivers de esta fabulosa comunidad de apasionados por las plantas suculentas. En el artículo de hoy quiero presentarles una parte de los resultados obtenidos en el cruce de Huernia zebrina con diferentes híbridos del mismo género. Huernia zebrina es una de las plantas del género más comercializadas a nivel mundial por la belleza de sus flores y, por tanto, ha llamado mucho mi interés. Dicho interés se enfoca en el mejoramiento genético de la especie con la obtención de nuevos híbridos de esta mediante cruces. El objetivo fundamental de este mejoramiento lo estoy enfocando en la obtención de plantas rápidas en crecimiento, con flores mucho más llamativas (mayor tamaño) y patrones de coloración atractivos. Los resultados obtenidos hasta el momento prometen buenos ejemplares con flores casi el doble de tamaño que la especie común y colores más vivos. Muchos de ellos ya están siendo comercializados en el mercado nacional y pronto incluidos en colecciones de México.
