Recently I have been listening to Etana's latest album titled Pamoja, which means “together” in Swahili. It was released on June 25th, so I am surprised I am just getting around to listening to it. In my opinion, Etana has captured the crown of conscious Reggae Empress, in that she keeps her songs and brand royal, and is never involved in any drama.
The album starts off with a fan who has never met Etana before exclaiming his love for the artiste and hailing her, as his favorite female star. Then the music starts with a song called legacy ft Naiboi from Kenya. The song is is about a queen and a king coming together to create their legacy by treating each other royally and creating a family.
I really like how they brought off the message in Legacy in such an up-tempo manner. On the album, Etana collaborates with many artistes from the motherland including Wezi from Zambia, StoneBoy from Ghahna, Nandy from Tazania and Wyre from Kenya. It shows her appreciation of her her roots and trying to reconnect with it. The album also features Vybz Kartel, Albarosie, Damion Marley, Patrice, Yahsha and Michael Bundi.
This is definitely a feel good and conscious album that is a pleasure to listen to. Below I leave you with the song Legacy and where you canlisten to the album. Enjoy!
