Happy New Year dear Hive-ers and may all that you set out to do be successful! 🎆 Just like the Christmas weekend in 2022, our New Year's (Eve) experience has been different from what we're used to, with some familiarities in between.
In Suriname we would've been out partying almost everyday in December and enjoying the fireworks and firecrackers and numerous street parties, with dinners and family time in between. After the "final" street party we would go home and enjoy a steak and a movie and at our parents' even pray together as a family.
December 31st we were invited to a countdown party - which was new to us - meeting interesting people from all over. Though most were new faces, we felt welcomed and a bit of the same vibe we knew from the party's in Suriname.
Because of not having made any plans with others, we booked a movie on January 1st, but before going to the cinema we were famished so looked for an open restaurant in the city. We were looking forward to having Italian food, but the restaurant seemed to be closed. We checked online for open eateries in the vicinity and found Asian Kitchen to be open at the moment.
It happened to be the best choice, as the price range was standard, the food was served in a moment's time and the staff friendly even though they were understaffed. We ordered the shrimp in sweet and sour sauce with fried rice instead of plain white rice and the chicken kung pao sauce (sweet and spicy) with white rice.
I'm always pleased when I see that I don't have to count the amount of shrimp - it was a generous amount - and it's even better when the food's up to my standards. The fried rice had the right amount of umami: not what I'm used to, but good enough. The chilly oil helped to enhance the flavors and the kung pau sauce had enough kick to enjoy the meal.
After the meal, we were ready and energized for the movie and didn't even have to buy popcorn. How did you spend your New Years' weekend? Let me know in the comments below 🤓.
