Reconnecting and Recharging Through Food 🍽 #DashOutSunday

Last weekend we were at it again and visited a new place - which is located in Cabenda village in District Para - with a part of the family and family friends who enjoy good food. Because the group would've been smaller than usual, they decided to keep the menu simple this time, although still not as simple for an average person.

Sunday at breakfast we had the option of fried cassava, eggs sunny side up or leftover soup from the night before. We opted for the saoto soup, which could also be eaten as egg noodle (bami) soup.

The broth for both bami - and saoto soup is the same, but instead of fried potatoes you'll use the egg noodles as filling. The rest of the garnish - such as the cooked and then fried chicken - remains the same.

At lunch, the menu consisted of fried egg noodles (called bami goreng in Suriname) with long beans, stewed chicken and liver sambal. Specifically for the sambal they used chilli peppers, which are called "alata pepre" in Sranan Tongo (Suriname's lingua franca).

I see chicken feet 😄 hehehe Jamaicans love that in their soup too. That last dish is it mainly liver? Looks pretty good, would go well with some fried dumplings, which I have not had in ages.

That liver sambal had at least 40 of those chilies in it, not for the weak hearted. 🤣

Same for my culture, but I still encounter some people who don't know it or don't like it.

So, the liver dish is actually a sambal, which is mostly to give more flavor to the main dish, but one could eat it as is. I wouldn't advise it though 😅. Oh and the liver sambal could also be eaten with bread for breakfast or lunch.
