Looks like you indeed found a little bit of treasure.
When I was in Texas, people used to sit good stuff beside the dumpsters where people could take it. It had several collages and an air force base, so many people coming in and out of the area and not wanting to drag everything around. Someone could have started a great business picking stuff up and reselling it. There probably WERE people doing that too.
