Splinterlands: How to Play with the Shades of Gray Ruleset

in THGaming2 days ago

Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to my blog! The Shades of Gray ruleset is one difficult to play if you don't have the units. It only allows neutral units in battles so if you are lacking the important neutral units then you're in deep trouble. Let's take a look at the units I use. They're not too expensive so they're easy to acquire if you want to invest a few DEC to be ready for this ruleset.

Ulundin Overseer

The Ulundin Overseer is great in the tank position in high mana battles. It needs eleven mana to field in battle but it's very beefy and has a high defensive stats. It boasts of five armor and twelve health at level one. It also has the Flank ability making it possible to place another tank behind it. For it's utility, I also use it in normal battles and not just the Shades of Gray. It only costs around twenty cents in the market so it's very cheap price to pay for the value it brings.

Halfling Refuge

If the Ulundin Overseer is for high mana battles, the Halfling Refugee is your tank for low mana battles. It only needs one mana to join the battle but packs great stats for its low mana. It deals three melee damage, has decent health of six and speed of three. A single copy costs a dollar and twenty cents but he brings a lot of utility that you can use him in many situations.

Conclave Tracker

The Conclave Tracker is a good support unit for the tank. It needs to be level three to achieve its utility where it gains the Repair ability. It only deals one magic damage but you're not fielding her for the damage. She can be positioned in the rear where she can also guard against Sneak attackers with her defense of two armor and five health. A single copy of gold foil costs thirty cents so she's very cheap for the kit she brings to the battle.

Arcane Skinwalker

The Arcane Skinwalker is a decent damage dealer at level one but you'll want him at level two where he gains the Shapeshift ability. Having this ability makes him benefit from the Bloodline Dominion buff of Conclave Arcana archons. A level two Arcane Skinwalker will set you back by two dollar forty cents but he's worth it in my opinion.

Bren Palesworn

Bren Palesworn is a legendary card and he packs a punch at level one. He deals dual damage of ranged and melee, has four health and three speed. He has the Sneak ability that means he can use both his attacks from long distance. He also has the Shapeshift ability enabling him to get the Bloodline Dominion buff from archons. He's a bit costly at six dollars a copy but he's not as expensive as other legendary cards out there.

Featured Battle

I usually use the Earth archon in my battles. Her Bloodline Dominion ability of Execute is the best in my opinion. Since I have two units with Shapeshift ability, I use them both with Kaylia. This battle also is capped at twenty seven mana so I had to use the Halfling Refugee for tank duties. Other members of the team were low mana magic units Kaori Matsune, a legendary reward card and the old Ujurak Elder from the Rebellion set. It also helps that Kaylia's ability is to debuff magic attacks since magic meta is back in Splinterlands with a maxed level Marlai Singariel from the Frontier being used in Modern Mode.

The enemy did use a magic team so I had a bit of an advantage. My units were also better than the enemy's since it seemed he's only using reward cards while I invested some funds to make my deck stronger. This led to my team winning the battle.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of rulesets in Splinterlands that guarantee that every battle will be different. We have to have the appropriate cards to meet these rulesets as well as the team the enemy will field in battle. We can do with reward cards but if you have funds then check out some of the key cards that will help you win these battles. They are not that expensive and they will pay for themselves with the rewards they bring in the long term.
