Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to my blog! The Frontier mode has been live for quite some time. It's the free to play version of Splinterlands where players can earn Frontier set cards. I've been playing in the Frontier alongside Modern for quite some time now. I already built a decent collection of cards from rewards while some, I bought from the market. In today's post, I'll show my growing collection and the cards and splinters that I prefer.
Archons

The archon in the team is very important. They determine the maximum level of unit a player can use in a battle. A higher level archon allows you to field a more powerful team with better stats and unlocked abilities. To compete in higher leagues, you need access to the full power of your cards. We should level up our archons first to ensure that units can be used at their desired power level.
Most of my archons are at level two except for Marlain Singariel who is at level three. Not all of these were earned from playing. I bought some copies of Marlai and Aurelia from the market to hasten their development. I don't feel bad about buying them since it helps the Splinterlands economy.

Legendary Cards

Legendary cards are the most powerful individual cards in the Frontier. Some of them are even good enough to use in Modern. I made a post ranking the legendary cards. These are my opinion based on how I play. Other players may see it differently and rank the cards in different order.
I have all the legendary cards except for Agnavian Salamander who remains elusive from my grasp. On the other hand, I ranked it at the bottom of my ranking anyway.
I already have two copies of Mystic Scaleweaver who is on the top my ranking. She is so good that I often see her and Marlai used in the Modern mode. I'm tempted to buy another copy to level her up to two but I'll wait for my luck to pull another one.
I maxed my Little Sister when I bought a copy from the market. She is so cheap at $.08 a copy but I rank her second to Mystic Scaleweaver based on her utility. Similar to Scaleweaver, she can also be used in Modern because she deals two magic damage and has two useful abilities. I think the only reason she is cheap is because a lot of players have copies of her.
Battles in the Frontier
Water is OP

The Water magic team is perhaps the most powerful team in terms of damage. It has a good low mana tank (Asel Alagosdil), a dual attack tank in Great Bear Druid and strong magic damage dealers in Mystic Scaleweaver and Saltwater Mage. The same team can be used and win in the Modern Mode as I've seen some players do. On the other hand, no team is invincible in Splinterlands. I also lose to teams like Earth and Death when I use Water.
Earth Splinter in High Mana Battles
The Earth Splinter has units that have high health. They are great in high mana and when battles have rulesets like Noxious Fumes or Global Warming. Their high health makes them survive such punishing rulesets that other splinters may find hard to resist.

In this battle, the enemy and I used the same team except for the Dire Bear I used. I like this unit for its high health and two melee damage. It saves my Dread Tafarian from battle and just aim to survive the Burning status. This is a key strategy I use whenever there are punishing rulesets like Noxious Fumes, Earthquake or Global Warming.
Fire for Speed
The Fire team has a lot of units that deal two damage. In rulesets like Equalizer where their weakness of low health is solved, it's great to use them. They attack the enemy first and deal damage quickly. Sometimes they eliminate the enemy unit before they can deal damage of their own which is a big advantage.

I use Fire when I see the enemy using slower units like Death or Earth but I have to consider the health of my units too since Fire has a lot of units with low health.
Final Thoughts
The Frontier is a fun mode that invites free to play players to dip their toes on Splinterlands. Players generally use the same set of cards so nobody is too overpowered. It takes strategy and skill to win in the Frontier more than the power of cards. I myself lose a lot to better strategies when I just spam my powerful Water cards. I get countered a lot by Death or Earth teams even if I had the superior cards. It takes synergy, tactics and correct strategy to win battles. This is what makes Splinterlands a fun game to play. Thank you for reading and see you on my next post!

Yeah water is great :D
My guild leader just assigned me a fray - one with no archon cap - as my highest archon is a one I will get murdered - ahh well :D
Oh good game! It's nice to play with people I talk to. I want to buy the Abyssal Elemental and level it up to two. It's a nice addition to my magic team 😀
If you are a newb like me then he is essential. he wins me a lot of games. I rent mine because he is so useful. Great for getting rid of poison and fire too
I just won a match where one card ended up with 45 health. A record for me.
