We've been in the north-east of Cape Breton for three days now and visited Fortress Louisbourg today.

An absolutely must-see piece of North American history that has been revitalised since the 1960s, i.e. completely rebuilt according to original plans and takes the visitor back to the period from 1724-1759, when the French had one of their most important bases for cod fishing on the nearby Newfoundland banks (Grand Banks) here in North America. This open-air museum is a great experience for the whole family and you can easily spend a whole day here. If you want to know more about the fort and the history between France and England, I link to a report on Wikipedia here.

And of course I made a little film (about 7 minutes) to show you our impressions in short form.

What is really impressive is the size of the site. You can go inside many of the houses and experience the period furnishings live. What makes the whole thing special, however, are the many active actors in historical costumes, with whom you can talk in English, French and Miq'mak about their hard life in the 18th century.

The houses of the rich families are shown as well as those of the middle class, the poor and the solataires, who committed themselves to serving the French king for six years. A kind of journey through time into the bourgeois life of the 18th century.

At the end of the day, we drove to the other side of the bay and visited the Loisbourg lighthouse and the remains of the oldest lighthouse in North America. But the best thing was the fantastic view of the bay and the sweeping view across the Atlantic towards Europe. It really was a successful and very entertaining day trip and anyone who has the chance to come to Cape Breton should not miss out on this historical gem.

I see you are having an enjoyable moment with your son. That's beautiful.

Hey grandpa @bradleyarroww, is this Newfoundland same place at your city?

Absolutly, we enjoy our time

It's such a nice trip for the both of you, what a lovely photos to see🥰
