RE: So i've got a trip planned for Mexico in September

Common sense is the key to any safety issues no matter where you are in the world. Next month whilst in London and Paris we will not be using the tube and will be only using taxis. I have even contemplated skipping London due to security concerns. Paris may only be 1 or 2 days and then move for the last 2 days to an outlying area, but I need to do some clothes shopping first. Personally I am not comfortable having the grandkids in tow even though I am super vigilant and spot things quickly.

I think that basically all big cities in North America and most of Europe are hot spots for crime these days. In large cities in central and south America there is always an opportunity for crime, but only in certain areas. There is something to be said about a police force that is quite ruthless. We gotta face some facts in the world today: The police need to be tougher than the criminals and the unarmed and unoffensive force that mollycoddles the public in the western world, isn't working.
