Kasyanka. Pt.1

Kasyanka is an abandoned village in the Vologda region of Veliky Ustyug District (Russia). In order to get into it, you need to drive from the district center of Veliky Ustyug for about 50 km along an asphalt road towards Kichmengsky Gorodok, and then turn into the village of Podvolochye on Shardenga. Well, then small adventures will begin. If a good primer runs up from Podvolochye, then after the village of Hill, which stands on a high hill, off-road begins.

One and a half kilometers I was still able to travel in a passenger car along a dried up rolled forest road, but then I had to dismount. When you walk, you notice more: footprints of a bear, elk, and wild boar.

The road is straight, but has steep descents and ascents.

In general, I used to somehow pay little attention directly to the road itself - but this is still an adventure!

On the way I saw a quarter pillar, most likely demolished by snowplows. Further beyond the village there were still settlements, then there was no trace left of them. And the road leads to deforestation.

The bird trills in the early spring morning are somehow especially inspiring.

On the right side of the road through the trees appeared the first roofs of houses. But I didn’t want to get through the thicket, so I had to look for a place of approach.

At first glance, there are few houses in Kasyanka.

But if you come closer, then there are more and more houses.

From afar, houses with balconies typical of the Shardenga old tract are already visible.

the village is located on a hill in a field, but the area around begins to turn into a swamp.

I want to go around everything at once, but I start the viewing from the most extreme and distant home.

Houses in Kasyanka have long been looted. In the surrounding area you can find a lot of gutted trash from the attics. There are interesting artifacts from the past.

Judging by the 2002 census, three people still lived here. That's what the village has turned into in twenty years!

And people are not to blame for this. You try to live in the village, having your own farm! This is hellish work! And without it, life will be even more difficult.

The old people died, the children did not want to keep at houses. Yes, people still live in much more inaccessible places, but this is their choice. Here the choice was made in favor of more convenient living conditions in places where there is work, people, shops, schools, kindergartens and etc.

Collectivization is characteristic of people. Only a few live alone.

I counted about twelve houses in the village of Kasyanka. On the map from the satellite, you can still see the "live" backyard and the bright roofs of the houses, but I have already learned from bitter experience: you cannot trust the cards. Satellite imagery may be twenty years old. According to them, the village may still look residential, but in fact from the houses there will already be ruins.

The expanses, of course, are gorgeous here! The Shardenga River is somewhere far beyond the forest, and there are no streams or lakes nearby.

Another beautiful artifact.

In one of the houses, the floor was sawn either for firewood, or for building material.

To be continued...
