Konkovo. Part 1

in TravelFeed3 years ago

The easiest way to explore the Riverside area of the Veliky Ustyug district of the Vologda region is in winter, because all roads leading to villages are well cleared of snow. And it's easier to get across the Northern Dvina River: you don't have to wait for the ferry, pay money and depend on the time - you just need to cross the ice crossing.

Konkovo is a village included in Parfenovo rural settlement. To reach this village from district center you can drive by passenger car on dirt road about 20 miles.

Seeing a two-story abandoned house, I was a little surprised. In such areas, there are usually classic huts or even five-walled houses.

All villages are on some kind of route, either water or land.

Even if the river is located a mile from the village, this does not mean that it was not nearby in more ancient times. There is a riverbed lake nearby, and the old channel of the Yug River can be clearly traced along the contours on the map from the satellite.

The facades of older houses are just facing the former riverbed.

There are a lot of crane wells in all villages, Konkovo is no exception.

People still live here, but there are almost no permanent residents left.

Each bush village has its own characteristics and atmosphere.

All the bushes of the villages are most often located on old riverbeds and in the low-lying floodplain part of the river.

Bare, not sheathed wood looks very picturesque.

Five-walled with a mezzanine wooden house is typical of this area.

And here is the old lake. The width coincides with the current channel of the Yug River.

The houses here were abandoned not so long ago, so they have not yet been plundered, plus there are still permanent residents in the village who prevent looting.

But the fate of this village is the same as that of all abandoned ones.

Even in spite of the river that has receded a little further, the place has retained its picturesque beauty.

At the entrance to the village there are ruins of a former farm, but I did not even take pictures of them.

It means that in these parts there was once intensive agricultural activity.

But as in the whole country, something went wrong...

To be continued...

Sort:

I think what happened was urbanization. It has hit the Northern Russian countryside harder than the Nordic countries simply because Russia is a large country with the most productive agricultural land in the south of the country. There are no agricultural subsidies keeping the northern agriculture profitable. In the Nordic countries, that is done to maintain self-sufficiency in basic foodstuffs. But that's obviously not necessary in Russia.

Thaks for the inside! Btw I really like the photographs.

It looks like there is still a lot of snow in some places, looking at the pictures of the place where most of them are small cabins, that big and lonely house is a bit impressive, I wonder what happened for someone to leave their home?

About the house you can see in the next part

I'll keep an eye out, I'm curious

Wonderful snapshots. There's something haunting about this place and your composition captures it precisely.

वाह बेहत खूबसूरत नज़ारा 😍👌
