Food Choices at the Pangkor Laut Island Resort

Breakfast at the Feast Village

Breakfast at the Feast Village (great name, by the way) is served buffet style, but many of the dishes are made to order. And the sheer amount of different kind of food was overwhelming. Just some of the dishes included noodle soup, curries with roti and dosa, eggs and omelets made-to-order, Nasi Lemak packed in banana leaves, hearty porridges, freshly made waffles and pancakes, dim sum, steam buns, a juice bar, pastries, and so much more. There was even a western style breakfast buffet, with cold cuts, cheeses and toast as well.

We had three days to try all of these amazing plates, and I’m proud to report that we succeeded. We tried them all on day one, then we tried them all again on days two and three.

Chapman’s Beach Bar

Chapman’s Bar is located on the beach at Emerald Bay. This was our first meal on the island, and we were still in awe of how beautiful the island was. From our table at Chapman’s Bar, the scene was almost surreal, with the jungle surrounding us and the turquoise water stretching out past the beach. I ordered Char Kway Teow, a yummy noodle dish, and a salt lassi. For dessert, I wanted to be brave, so ordered a dish of white fungus with lotus flower seed. It was better than I expected, but I was pretty jealous of Ais Kacang Mike had ordered, and annoyed by how much he seemed to be enjoying it.

Bellies full and satisfied, we snatched two of the nearby beach chairs and lounged until sunset.

The Fisherman’s Cove

I’m not a big fish eater, but Mike is — and since it was our anniversary, I decided to be generous and agree to dinner at the Fisherman’s Cove, a fine dining restaurant near the Spa Village. I figured there must be something on the menu that wasn’t fish, and indeed there was: a Wagyu Kobe Steak. I’ve never had this legendary cut of meat before, so decided I had to try it out — we were celebrating, after all!

With its open kitchen and views over the bay, the Fisherman’s Cove felt very exclusive and the service was excellent. Mike was thrilled with his fish and the appetizers were unique and delicious: crispy soft shell crab, and white prawns tossed with citrus alioli and walnuts. Don’t miss this spot when visiting the island.

Dinner on the Beach

The Pangkor Laut Resort offers several dinner experiences, one of which is called “Dinner on the Beach”. It’s not the kind of thing we’d normally do, but this was our anniversary, after all! When else should you have a romantic dinner on the sand? (You might be noticing that we frequently made use of “the anniversary” as an excuse to splurge throughout our stay. Ice cream? It’s our anniversary! Another beer? Anniversary!)

Before dinner, we went on a sunset cruise around the island. By the time we arrived at Emerald Bay, we were excited to discover that we were the only guests on the beach. And on the sand, we saw a single table, beautifully positioned near the water, in the middle of heart sculpted in the sand. Awwww! We’re not the kind of couple who goes in for big romantic moments… but this was pretty special.

The treatment we got from our waiter and the staff was just incredible, so attentive and friendly. After they lit a small fire next to our table, the dinner service began. We were treated to four plates: each of them delicious, and leading up to the main event: a huge plate with both steak and lobster. So much food, and we ate it all. We were so stuffed, but somehow found a way to eat the dessert as well.

Each one of the meals we had on Pangkor Laut would have by itself been a memorable highlight, so we almost felt guilty about treating ourselves to so many of them! just look at all these pictures, it’s really a bit much. But like I said: anniverary! It’s the magic word which justifies any extravagance!
