Happy and blessed beginning of the week to all dear readers and beloved light beins.
For those who don't know in Venezuela, specifically the City of Caracas, there is a mountain much loved by all of us who live here called Ávila, this mountain is made up of 5 majestic peaks and a set of roads that make it possible to travel through all that I wish it. Every day there are many people from Caracas and visitors from the interior of the country as well as from other countries who decide to take a tour of it. Its nature full of abundant vegetation, animals, waterfalls and wells make any journey a renewing experience in connection with this magical mountain.
Today, i want to tell you a little about my journey through this mountain towards Pico Naiguatá, one of the highest that lies on it with around 2,765 m and from which part of the City of Caracas and La Guaira with its beautiful Beaches.
Our trip began around 5 in the afternoon, in the morning a group had already started the ascent but we divided into two, since some of us, due to having responsibilities during the day, could not do it and also because many of us consider it better to climb during the night because we knew a hard journey awaited us and the coolness of the night would help us.
So we started our ascent along the The Julia route, one of the many routes to this peak, it should be noted that most of this route is done uphill, starting with the small one that must be done just starting the route until reaching the post of the Park Guard, in addition to this each of the members carried on their back like a good backpacker a bag between 20 and 25 kg that as we made the ascent we didn't even feel it hahaha
When we arrived at the Park Ranger's post it was getting dark and he told us that they were not letting us climb at night due to security measures and care of the mountain, however he knew us and we showed him that we were wearing the necessary clothing for the tour as a flashlight among other instruments and thus allowed us to pass.
Our goal was to be able to arrive around 4 am or even earlier since the climb to the Peak is about 4-6 hours depending on the rate of climb of the group but added to the weight we were carrying we added more time. Despite our expectations, the cold and the experiences we had at each moment of the tour made us delay much more.
When we got to our first stop the cold was already unbearable, one of my companions was coming up with a cough and was about to give up and stay camping right there but we encouraged him to continue the journey. For my part, when starting the second climb, for those who don't know it this is called 2 flags and it is one of the steepest and most difficult climbs, i started to feel like vomiting, so i told a friend that she was with me and we decided to stop.
After that i recovered and we continued the climb but all i wanted was for it to end as it seemed infinite and its incline level was unthinkable. Despite this, at one point along the route i was able to stop and look back and I was surprised by the wonderful view I had of the city and the clouds below me so i was grateful to be able to live that experience and continue despite my fears.
The truth is, this route is one of the most challenging for me, perhaps that is why I have so much respect and affection for it and I return again and again for more. Finally, after hours of walking and my flashlight running out of battery, we arrive at La Fila, another point on the route that is usually challenging.
The Row corresponds to one of the tips of the mountain, this part is flat, however it is very narrow or what must be done with one person after another. At this point many of us froze from the cold and the breeze that was hitting this area of the mountain was imminent to the point that despite the weight we were carrying we were moving and staggering.
We were delayed here a bit because a colleague began to shiver from the cold and cry, her hands were purple and i observed mine that they were going the same way but with courage we all got together to give her warmth, we put another coat on her and that way she could recover and continue. After that, another colleague also began to feel bad and I thought: things from the mountains.
We stopped for a longer time but we encouraged him to continue, we were already arriving and he also took courage, we took some water and food and continued. And then… .after many hours… We arrived!
It was dawn and we began to shout so that our companions would know that we made it, they began to come out of their tents and they saw us with emotion so we quickly went and wanted to reach the top of the cross.
Summiiiiit! We scream full of emotion and then we lay down on the floor to rest hahaha.
We began to tell our colleagues everything we experienced on the ascent because they told us that they worried when we didn't arrive at the expected moment.
After setting up the tent that i shared with a friend and sleeping a little despite the cold, I was able to regain energy to take many photos this time. The Naiguata Peak is an amazing place, when you are up, everything is forgotten and you think you are in another place, a distant and wonderful place, sometimes it is difficult to believe that it is in Caracas, but that's the way it is.
Our nice camp.
The weather upstairs is very volatile due to the altitude so in some photos i waa completely sheltered from the cold and in others I almost wanted to be naked because of the heat.
At the top of the Peak, being happy as an earthworm, it was all very cloudy so you couldn't see the city at that time.
Me: buddy, take pictures of me as an internet and travel diva hahaha.
For anyone who wants to know this Peak, i invite you to do so as soon as the confinement ends, I will surely do it to clear my mind and feel again the pure and clean air of this beautiful mountain. For foreigners you already know, Naiguatá Peak is a fascinating place! I invite you to connect with nature, to love it, to enjoy but especially to respect it.
