There are some places that surprise you the moment you land — Mauritius is one of them. It’s not just the postcard-perfect beaches (though they’re every bit as stunning as you imagine), but the rhythm of the island itself that captures your heart.
I stayed at the Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas, a serene spot that perfectly matched the island’s calm energy. From there, every day felt like a new discovery — snorkeling in turquoise lagoons, hiking through emerald-green forests, and sampling spicy Creole food at colorful local markets.
If there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss in Mauritius, it’s the seafood. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, it’s a true reflection of the island’s coastal life. Lobster, in particular, is a star here — often grilled to perfection and served with garlic butter, lime, and local herbs. I had one of my favorite meals right on the beach: a plate of freshly caught lobster, waves lapping at my feet, and the sunset painting the sky in shades of gold and pink. It’s the kind of dining experience that feels more like a moment than a meal.
What struck me most was the diversity — not just in scenery, but in culture and people. The blend of Indian, African, French, and Chinese influences creates a rich tapestry of traditions and flavors that you can feel everywhere, from the music to the cuisine. The locals are warm, genuine, and always ready with a story or a smile.
And then there are the sunsets — those golden skies fading into the endless Indian Ocean, the kind of view that makes you forget your phone exists.
Mauritius isn’t just beautiful; it’s grounding. It reminds you how good life feels when you slow down, breathe deeply, and let nature do the talking.
