The Maracas Lookout

A panaorama I made in Lightroom of the western view.

The north coast of Trinidad is most just a winding road on mountainsides, surrounded by breathtaking lush greenery and above the coastline. There is a point along the road that is called the Maracas Lookout. It is named after the Maracas beach that the winding road is used to get to and is a popular stop off place for beautiful views of the ocean from a height and food as well as other refreshments. It provides a good vantage point to see a small fraction of the beautiful land formations of Trinidad's Northern coastline. The views here are phenomenal and if you are heading to Maracas beach (as all tourists tend to do), I definitely recommend stopping off!

Taking a look from above (that I took with the drone), you can see that it is relatively busy and almost everyone has to stop off and at least get a quick shot of themselves for the Instagram and Facebook stories and so on. Yeah it is one of "those" places! To the right is the road and to the left where the tents are, is the lookout point with a nice panoramic view. The tents are usually occupied by vendors that sell local sweets and drinks.

Taking a more ground level view, you can see how busy it really is. The sweets sold by the vendors include local favorites like sugar cakes (made with shredded coconut), fudge, tamarind balls and bene balls (made with sesame seeds and molasses) just to name a few.

There is a reason why this lookout and the panoramic views that it provides is so iconic for tourists and local Trinidadians alike. The amazing blue and turquoise waters accompanied with the lush green protruding peninsulas from the mainland produces such breath taking landscapes. This time, I had the drone with me, so we could get some even better shots! This first one is taken facing westwards and shows off a bay or cove that is literally a sharp descent into the ocean.

This next shot is facing eastwards and is the most famous and popular shot for literally everyone arriving at this spot. Everyone from Trinidad has at least one shot of this view in their Instagram or Facebook! Though I dislike cliches, I took one nonetheless to show you.

Those out stretches of land or peninsulas with untouched forests and vegetation are so mysterious. Who knows what they may be hiding? Its amazing to think how much of Trinidad is untouched! So this was the Maracas Lookout on the way to Maracas Beach, which means that I shall be showing off that location in the next post, so feel free to follow for that! It would mean a lot and thanks for reading, Cheers!
