Regarding the museum though: what sort of people did you notice around it? I suspect it manages to pull in some interesting characters.

oh thank goodness! As I was writing I got a little concerned because of the photos.
Actually it was pretty much empty when we visited the museum! I think we only encountered one other group of people who just looked like regular tourists like us. I guess the locals have probably seen it all already.
