Those who have known me for some time know that my beginnings in urban art were through graffiti, an art form that I met in my adolescence.
Artists such as Banksy, OBEY or Invader enlightened my eyes, clinging in my ideas that art could be much more than a simple object of admiration and distraction.
Beyond graffiti magazines in English and expensive exhibitions, there was much, much essence. Essence of the underground, of the streets, of organic discontent. Of the desire to do more and appear less.
More here, in my land I met CMS (Cómete mis Sobras), and other exponents of graffiti and also of the 4 elements that make up the HIPHOP culture. The MC, the DJ, the BBoy and of course the graffer....
When I found out that the graffiti artist Afor was going to be in Lima celebrating his birthday with an exhibition, I thought it was incredible and of course we were there.
Here I show you the incredible space they have in Lima 247 Art Gallery, and part of the exhibition of Afor and other artists who make life in the scene, as POET.

El que me conoce desde hace algún un tiempo sabe que mis inicios en el arte urbano fueron por el grafitti, forma de arte que conocí en plena adolescencia.
Artistas como Banksy, OBEY o Invader dislumbraron mi mirada, aferrando en mi ideas de que el arte podía ser más mucho más que simple objeto de admiración y distracción.
Más allá de las revistas de graffiti en inglés y las exposiciones costosas, había mucha pero mucha esencia. Esencia del underground, de las calles, del descontento orgánico. De las ganas de hacer más y figurar menos.
Más acá, en mis tierras conocí a CMS (Cómete mis Sobras), y otros exponentes del graffiti y además, de los 4 elementos que componen la cultura HIPHOP. El MC, el DJ, el BBoy y por supuesto el graffer...
Cuando me enteré que el grafitero Afor iba a estar en Lima celebrando su cumpleaños con una exposición además, me pareció increíble y por supuesto estuvimos por ahí.
Acá les muestro el increíble espacio que tienen en Lima 247 Art Gallery, y parte de la exposición de Afor y de otros artistas que hacen vida en la escena, como POET.
The movement is noticeable from before arriving at the site, with many graffiti, bomb tags and stickers in the nearby streets, being a clear indication that you are close to the site.
POET distinctive teddy bear is everywhere, from the north of Peru in cities like Chiclayo and Trujillo I have seen his spots in very, very good spots. He is a prominent writer in town, we have interacted via instagram and he seems like a great person. I would love to interview him.
The amount of merch is incredible, there is a store with top quality implements at very good prices. I'll be making another visit soon to buy some markers and some of those nice colored cans, they have MONTANA and SHARK, top brands in the industry.

La movida se hace notar desde antes de llegar al lugar, con muchas pintas, bombas tags y stickers en las calles cercanas, siendo un claro indicativo de que se está cerca del sitio.
El distintivo osito de POET está por todos lados, desde el norte del Perú en ciudades como Chiclayo y Trujillo he visto sus manchas en muy pero muy buenos spot. Es un destacado escritor de la ciudad, hemos interactuado por instagram y parece una gran persona. Me encantaría entrevistarlo.
La cantidad de merch es increíble, hay una tienda con implementos de primera calidad a muy buenos precios. Estaré haciendo otra visita pronto para comprar unos markers y alguna lata de esos colores tan lindos, tienen MONTANA y SHARK, marcas top del sector.
Afor, a Mexican graffiti artist with an extraordinary trajectory, in this exhibition allows himself to celebrate the enormous influence he has left on the world scene.
He started painting in 1997, and his tag is now an indelible mark on all of us enthusiasts and practitioners of this countercultural, decentralized and communitarian art.
With a penchant for vandal graffiti and an incredible ability to mix his style with just about anything, Afor has managed to keep it real in a world where reputation matters, and has made a name for the culture by working with major mainstream brands.
A walking testament to how graffiti can be a powerful tool for connecting cultures, and creating lasting bonds.

Afor, grafitero mexicano con una trayectoria extraordinaria, en esta exposición se permite celebrar la enorme influencia que ha dejado en la escena mundial.
Empezó a pintar en 1997, y su tag es ahora una marca indeleble en todos nosotros entusiastas y practicantes de este arte contracultural, descentralizado y comunitario.
Con predilección por el graffiti vandal y una habilidad increíble para mezclar su estilo con prácticamente cualquier cosa, Afor ha sabido mantenerse real en un mundito donde la reputación importa, y ha dejado bien en alto a la cultura trabajando con marcas importantes del mainstream.
Un testimonio andante de como el graffiti puede ser una poderosa herramienta para conectar culturas, y crear lazos duraderos.

I loved the whole exhibition and the set up, I highlight a lot the set up because sometimes it is complicated to get good ways to organize this kind of art.
You can tell that everyone has it very clear in this space, the organization was 10 and you can continue going to this exhibition for a couple of weeks more. If you are in Lima, do not think guys....

Creo que este cuadro de acá arriba fue mi favorito, es el tipo de arte que tendría en mi casa. ¿Qué opinas?
Me encantó toda la exposición y el montaje, resalto mucho el montaje porque a veces es complicado conseguir buenas maneras de organizar este tipo de arte.
Se nota que todos lo tienen muy claro en este espacio, la organización estuvo de 10 y se podrá seguir yendo a esta exposición por un par de semanas más. Si están en Lima, no lo duden chicos... This is the spoiler content.
