Almost childlike and naïve in its style and colours, the artwork adorns many plain buildings across the small city of Ataco.

It was in the early 2000's that tourism took off here, and at that time to "brighten" the place up city council sanctioned and applauded street art was seen as ideal

To me it isn't real, it isn't purist, it isn't special, it's too whimsical and false. Do you get where I am coming from?

The murals appear to be done by a group of multi talented local artisans.

A couple of disgruntled local winos, who thought I was snapping them. "hands out for money....

...."Fuck off" seems to be universally understood.

Am I guessing that there are not many, if any FMLN supporting residents in the area, otherwise I think these murals of bits of the usa would be greatly defaced.
