This post is published in the framework of my series of post about the street art of Antofagasta (Chile). In this occasion I share a mural that can be considered as “institutional street art”, since it is not the spontaneous product of local artists, It is a work commissioned by an institution to an artist or group of artists.
The mural is titled “ Mujer Fósil”, which can be translated as “Fossil Woman”. It transmits the message of the importance of fossils to science and the patrimony of a country.
Notice that the colors of the painting has lost some of their intensity due to the exposure to the sunlight and the weather. It is worth to point out how the door was integrated into the work.
On the plate it reads (translated by Google translator):
“The woman semi-submerged in the Sea, like a Desert formed in ecological time. The Cordillera de las Andes and the Coast rise. Forming salt flats and, at the same time, exposing marine organisms on the surface until they become fossils.”
These photos are my entry of this week CCC’s Street Art Contest (#159) organized by @digi-me, the rules of the contest are here.
Google translator was only used for translating the quote on the plate. All the other texts was written by myself.
