"Mannheim, One City, One Love" Street Art

Yesterday I showed you a graffiti / mural of the Lilientahlstraße in Mannheim district Schönau ( https://ecency.com/hive-184784/@street-ar/pair-of-lions-street-art ). Also this graffiti / mural enstand with the cooperation GBG - Mannheimer Housing association Gmbh, Youth House Schönau, the artist Rick Riojas and friends. This is the second building of the GBG where was sprayed and was created in 2020.

Gestern zeigte ich euch einen Graffiti / Mural von der Lilientahlstraße in Mannheim Stadtteil Schönau ( https://ecency.com/hive-184784/@street-ar/pair-of-lions-street-art ). Auch dieses Graffiti / Mural enstand mit der Kooperation GBG – Mannheimer Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Gmbh, Jugendhaus Schönau, dem Künstler Rick Riojas und Freunde. Dies ist das zweite Gebäude von der GBG wo gesprayt wurde und entstand im Jahre 2020.

On this graffiti mural is not just any angel depicted, but the Angel of Peace in 1946 by the VVN (Association of Persecutees of the Nazi regime) made the request for a memorial plaque to be placed on Georg-Lechleiter-Platz. It was not until the beginning of 1951 that the city of Mannheim commissioned the sculptor Gerhard Marcks for the Peace Angel. This peace angel is to remember the resistance fighters Lechleiter and the executed with him (What just also fits what is currently happening in Ukraine, that this war stops and peace returns).

Auf diesem Graffiti Mural ist nicht irgend ein Engel abgebildet, sondern der Friedensengel der im Jahre 1946 von der VVN ( Vereinigung der Verfolgten des Naziregimes) den Antrag stellte für einen Gedenktafel der am Georg-Lechleiter-Platz gestellt werden sollte. Erst anfang 1951 beauftragte die Stadt Mannheim den Bildhauer Gerhard Marcks für den Friedensengel. Dieser Friedensengel soll an die Widerstandskämpfer Lechleiter und die mit ihm Hingerichteten erinnern ( Was gerade auch passt was zurzeit in der Ukraine passiert, das dieser Krieg aufhört und frieden einkehrt ).

Behind the Angel of Peace is Mannheim's landmark water tower, which stands on Friedrichsplatz. The Mannheim water tower is 60 meters high and has a diameter of 19 meters. It was built between 1886 - 1889 and was the first municipal water tower in Mannheim. Its capacity is 2 million liters of water and served Mannheim for water supply because at that time the water was not enough. 2.3 million German marks cost this construction and should supply at that time for 120000 people, however until year 1900 were installed 5000 water connections. In the second world war the water tower was destroyed and in the year 1963 faithfully again developed and at the point of the water tower the statue of the Amphitrie placed over Mannheim to guard. The complete restoration lasted until 1987 and is now a listed building. Between 1998 and 2000, the water tower was shut down.

Hinter dem Friedensengel ist der Mannheimer Wahrzeichen den Wasserturm der am Friedrichsplatz steht. Der Mannheimer Wasserturm ist 60 Meter hoch und hat einen Durchmesser von 19 Meter. Erbaut wurde er zwischen Jahr 1886 - 1889 und war der erste städtische Wasserturm in Mannheim. Sein Fassungsvermögen beträgt 2 Millionen Liter Wasser und diente Mannheim für die Wasserversorgung da damals das Wasser nicht reichte. 2,3 Millionen Deutsche Mark kostete dieser bau und sollte damals für 120000 Menschen versorgen, jedoch bis Jahr 1900 waren 5000 Wasseranschlüsse installiert. Im zweiten Weltkrieg wurde der Wasserturm zerstört und im Jahr 1963 Originalgetreu wieder aufgebaut und an der Spitze des Wasserturm die Statue der Amphitrie gestellt die über Mannheim wachen soll. Die komplette Restaurierung dauerte bis 1987 und steht nun unter Denkmalschutz. Zwischen 1998 und 2000 wurde der Wasserturm still gelegt.

Jedoch hat das ganze nun einen harken die GBG – Mannheimer Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Gmbh lässt die Graffitis beibehalten bis die 4 Gebäuden neu Renoviert / Saniert werden. Wann es soweit ist, ist noch unbekannt, jedoch können wir uns noch lange diese Graffiti / Mural bewundern.
