The game tried to simulate the animals in their natural habitats as much as they could, so you will find the likes of Crocodiles and Kangaroos in the Australian map/reserve, Lions, Springboks, Cape Buffaloes etc in the plains of African Savannah, and Moose, Bears etc in Yukon Valley, Alaska and so on. They did an incredible job of introducing all the native species of that place and simulating it. Yes, so many things can be improved but the developers did a great job overall.
