Today in Splinterlands, luck didn't help, but there's a lot to learn from the loss!

How are you all? Of course, you're fine. Today I went to the #lsplinderlands Battleground again to play two matches. I'm in the Bronze Three League, so every win is precious to me. But unfortunately, I had to face defeat in both matches today. As a new player, I understand the lack of good cards, but every loss teaches me to think about strategies in a new way. Let's do a postmortem of my two battles today.

Battle 1: Opponent JANGO_LITE (My Taunt strategy in the enemy's net)

  • Battle rules:

  • Mana cap: 46

  • Ruleset: Shades of Gray (Only neutral monsters can be used)

After seeing this rule, a plan came to my mind. Since I have to use only neutral monsters, I decide to organize my team with my best neutral cards. My original plan was centered around New Beluroc Aegis.

My card selection and strategy:

Summoner: Aurelia (+1 for health bonus)

Position 1 (Tank): New Beluroc Aegis - This 8 mana card's Taunt ability was the mainstay of my strategy. I wanted this card to handle all the enemy's attacks alone. Its 3 shields and 5 health were reassuring.

Position 2: Vengeful Monk - I wanted to quickly finish off the opponent's weakest or lowest health card with its Opportunity ability.

Position 3: Great Bear Druid - I kept this 9 mana card to provide strength in the middle lane because of its magic attack and good health.

Position 4: Lunaki Howler - This is also a magic attack card. My goal was to deal direct damage through shields.

Position 5: Quillstorm Mage - also has the Opportunity ability. Along with Vengeful Monk, it was one of my weapons to weaken the opponent's backline.

Position 6: Grand Consul Minion - I took this low mana card just to fill the slot.

Result: Defeat

I planned to keep the enemy busy with Taunt and finish off their weak cards with Opportunity Attacker. But the opponent JANGO_LITE probably had a better combination than me. My New Beluroc Aegis couldn't last long under their combined attacks. Once my main tank was knocked down, the whole team was out of balance, and I lost the match. I regret that maybe the result could have been different if the positions of the cards had been changed a little.

Battle 2: Opponent MYIRIO (Even with Equalizer rules, it didn't last)

  • Battle rules:

  • Mana cap: 47

  • Ruleset: Equalizer (Everyone's health will be equal, equal to the card with the highest health)

I was a little optimistic after seeing this ruleset. My strategy was to use cards with low mana but high attack. Because their health will definitely increase due to the Equalizer rules.

My card selection and strategy:

In this match, I emphasized my attacking power more. My selected cards were:

  • Lunaki Howler

  • Mad Gearhead

  • Teracup Mauler

  • Vicious Quilluin

  • Quillstorm Mage

  • And some other attacking cards.

My goal was to attack heavily from the start and drop one card after another of the opponent's.

Result: Defeat again

But this time, luck was not on my side. The opponent MYIRIO came out with a very strong and well-planned team. Their cards had much more attack and speed than mine. They took advantage of the Equalizer rules more than I wanted to take advantage of. My cards could not stand up to their attacks. The result, another disappointing loss.

Losing two matches in a row is quite a bummer. It seems that winning is almost impossible without a good card collection. But I am not giving up. Every loss is a new lesson. I will try to find out my mistakes from today's losses. I need to pay more attention to card positioning, using the right abilities, and understanding the opponent's strategy.

One day, I will also come out of this Bronze League and compete with the big players. I am waiting for that day.
