Sheepy: A Short Adventure || Fighting the Dark Energy

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

If you haven't checked Part 1, where I walked you through the first four chapters of the game. Do check that post first and come back to read about the events of the final two chapters.

Sheepy: A Short Adventure is one of the cutest games that I played in a while. It is a 2D platformer with hand-drawn graphics and a hard-hitting soundtrack. At some point, it feels like a blend of Hollow Knight and Ori but the best part is it's completely free!

Chapter 5: Purgatory

We are at the depths of Belgin Institue's mining area. This was a restricted area and we were met with a warning to not expose any part of our body to contaminated air and leave immediately. But we are a plushie who came to life so I think we are good here xD.

There was a big elevator which took us even further down, but it got stuck in the middle and we had to ditch the elevator and get down on our own.

We found an investor's note lying on the ground among the pile of dead bodies that lay there. I am sure Belgin never imagined the catastrophe that took place here. Every tunnel is filled with dead bodies, most probably the employees of Belgin.

Patches: The Dark Bear

Crossing the previous tunnel, led us into an arena with Patches, the Dark Bear lying unconscious on the floor but soon the evil energy took control of him and he started attacking us. This was our second Boss Battle in the game.

This was an interesting one, unlike the last time we fought, we could do some damage with our abilities and not just dodge.

Patches could fly very high in the air and use its dagger to strike down causing an electrical shockwave across the floor. We could dodge this if we dash across using our recently gained super dash from the bull's horns.

After a few attacks, the bear would freeze and that is the window we can use to hit it. We can dash through him and it would take damage. Doing this a few more times would defeat the bear.

Defeating him this time will give us a new power-up. The energy came out of the bear and he left so we went and absorbed this new glowing thing and guess what it gave us the ability to fly!

With this new movement ability, we get more little challenges. There was a long vertical section that we had to climb up. Finally, we were going up instead of down. This section was not that difficult but quite a change from all the other ones.

At the top of this section was a big glowing orb that looked interesting. I jumped onto it and it launched us like a rocket out of this deep tunnel.

We reached the surface and still kept going further up. For the first time in this game, we saw the sunlight and it was quite bright. This has to be the brightest shot in the entire game. For once, the game looked like it would be a change from the dark environment.

But I was wrong, it shot us way up in the sky and the last and final chapter of the game just started.

Chapter 6: Apotheosis

The name of the chapter was so accurate, this place was so high up in the sky, that we crossed the clouds on our way to reach here. But one thing was clear the other traveller had been here before but I could see a dead guy, maybe it was him?

The last message said he was out of water and food. But we don't need water and food so we are good to go. We are powered by a mysterious energy that brought us to life in the first place.

This level was mostly about combining all the powerup and movement abilities that we already had performing cool stunts and completing the platforming sections.

We arrived at a glowing door which I thought I had to enter but this building was in ruins.

As soon as we tried to enter it triggered something and the sky changed the colors and a message appeared on the screen.

It welcomed us and said we finally arrived and this was the time to return all the powers that we were given.

Dark Energy, the evil source

Our story was coming to an end but the final challenge awaits us. Patches, the bear was already waiting there and as we arrived at this final section, we were introduced to the Dark Energy, the source of all the evil.

This energy tried to harm us but surprisingly Patches saved us and tried to protect us from further attack which was quite unexpected. So now we know he is not the evil boss that we had to defeat, he was just possessed by that Dark Energy that was making him stop us.

There was a big portal at the centre of the arena which would get progressively filled if we sacrificed all of our abilities to the torches placed at both sides of the arena while the Dark Energy chases and tries to stop us.

We had to go into the fireballs one at a time which would take one of our abilities so it would make it tougher and tougher to do the next ones until just one torch left and we had no ability left other than just a normal jump.

We could use the blast produced by the Dark Energy to get to the last tower and fill up the portal. At this point, Patches, the bear, was exhausted after trying to stop the dark energy. So we dragged him out of there with us. He helped us in this final challenge so it was perfectly normal for us to save him too.

This was the end of this small adventure. Or was it?

I would love to play Sheepy: The Long Adventure which the developers hinted at after this end. It was a free game, sort of like a beautiful demo which could be a big game of its own. This was visually stunning and the soundtrack was amazing too. It improves as you progress through the game and gain more movement abilities. I highly recommend this short game.

I hope you enjoyed this Adventure as much as I did. Thanks for reading till the end! See you soon!

Wow the light effects in this title look amazing, I really like how it combines them with such dark backgrounds, I wanted to play it a long time ago but for some reason at the time it was very slow on my pc :/

This game looks so cool man, I should try it sometime, it's exactly the kind of indie I like XD
Of course, I will watch one or two videos from a YouTube channel and decide whether I should buy it or not.

This game is quite short just an hour or two and it is FREE on Steam!
