Poetry and Intimate Expression Reflection:
Since I graduated with a degree in Spanish and Literature, I have learned a lot about poetry, its significance in human history, and its evolution.
This topic is perfect for me because, just last Thursday, I went to a bookstore looking for nothing but poetry. It was like waking up and craving a particular dish—I simply felt like reading poetry.
To me, poetry is the gateway to the soul of words and their combinations. Reading poetry completely transforms your perception of life. You no longer see things as merely simple; you recognize form, intensity, and purpose in them.
During my studies, I attempted to write poetry (and still do to this day), but I rarely share it. Like everything in life, poems have structure, tone, rhyme, and many other elements that make up their composition. However, I truly enjoy reading poetry out loud.
What emotions does poetry awaken in me?
It depends on the author. Some poems make you uncomfortable, provoke anger or irritation, while others bring joy, excitement, or even seduction. But they all evoke one thing: critical thinking.
Poetry is like a story that doesn't explicitly tell you who the characters are or what is happening—it guides you so that you uncover it yourself. And when it does state things outright, it uses various literary devices to spark your imagination and paint vivid pictures in your mind.
One of my favorite subjects was literary analysis. We would take a poem and critique it as a class, trying to decipher what the author was saying. It’s not easy—it’s like analyzing a painting. You're given a visual piece, and each person interprets it differently. Sometimes, clues lie in the author's life, experiences, loves, or tragedies—there’s always a little bit of everything.
Metaphors serve a purpose, just like similes, rhymes, prose, and the structure of words. Everything in a poem is intentional—or sometimes, it isn’t. That’s what makes it so fascinating to discover!

If I had to admire one poet for their exquisite and playful rhyming, it would be Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz—her poetry makes my heart leap every time I read it. But of course, there are many more poets and works I’ve deeply enjoyed.
For example, I once borrowed a book of Hindu poetry, and it was a true gem. Looking at my list, I notice that my favorite poems tend to be philosophical, intense, and reflective, or they have a rich vocabulary that captivates me.
Final Thoughts
So yes, poetry isn’t just about love, people! And Pablo Neruda isn’t the only one who has written about women and his rather questionable encounters. However, I do love his poem "The Words."
When I read poetry, I feel the most understood in this world. I am extremely sensitive—I love seeing everything, understanding everything, analyzing everything. And yes, there are poems that remain puzzles no matter how many times you read them, yet that, too, is part of the enjoyment.
In conclusion, poetry makes me believe in humanity. Your perception of the world changes once you start reading poems because they are deeply personal and intense expressions of the human experience.

Poesía y expresión íntima
Reflexión:
Partiendo de que soy licenciada egresada de área de castellano y literatura. Fue mucho lo que aprendí de poesía, de su importancia en la historia humana y su evolución.
Este tema me viene como anillo al dedo porque justo el jueves pasé por una librería y todo lo que buscaba era poesía. Así como cuando te levantas y dices "hoy me provoca comer tal cosa". Bueno me ha provocado leer poesía.
Para mí la poesía es el acercamiento hacia el alma de las palabras y sus combinaciones. Leer poesía te cambia por completo la vida. Y ya no ves las cosas tan simples como lo parecen, hay forma, intensidad y propósito en ellas.
Durante mi carrera intenté escribir poesía (hasta el sol de hoy lo hago) pero casi nunca lo muestro ni nada porque al igual que todo en la vida. Los poemas tienen estructura, un tono, rima y bueno muchas cosas más que implican escribirla. Sin embargo, disfruto leerla en voz alta.
Ahora bien, ¿qué emociones me despiertan? Depende del autor pero hay poemas que te incomodan, te generan rabia, molestias o por el contrario te alegran, te excitan, te seducen. Pero todas evocan algo: el pensamiento crítico.
La poesía es como esa historia que no te dirá quienes son los personajes, ni qué sucede explícitamente sino que te guía para que tú lo descubras. Y cuando literalmente lo dice, utiliza muchos recursos para promover tu imaginación y dibujes todo.
De mis clases favoritas siempre fueron las de análisis literario, en dónde se tomaba un poema y todos en la clase íbamos criticando de qué habla el autor en ese poema o de que trata. Y no es fácil, es como analizar una pintura. Te dan una pieza visual y cada persona le da una interpretación diferente. Puede ser que las pistas las encontremos en la vida del autor, sus experiencias, amores o tragedias. Hay de todo un poco.
Las metáforas tienen un propósito, los símil, las rimas, la prosa, la forma de las palabras. Todo tiene una intención en el poema o no. Eso es lo interesante 😅 descubrirlo.
Hay muchos poemas/ poemarios que me gustan. Pero entre mis favoritos están:

- Hierba Fresca de Walt Wihtman
- Trilce de César Vallejo
- La canción del corsario de Lord Byron
- Pocas Virtudes y Valiente Ciudadano de Miyó Vestrini
Y si he de admirar una rima tan pulcra y juguetona sería la de Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, siempre que la leo mi corazón salta. Pero bueno hay muchos más autores y muchos más poemas que he disfrutado muchísimo. Por ejemplo recuerdo que presté un libro de poesía hindú era una verdadera joya. Porque si notan mis elecciones, la última poesía que elijo habla de amor, siempre son filosóficas, intensas, reflexivas o por el contrario que tienen un rico vocabulario que me enamora.
Entonces sí, la poesía no solo habla de amor gente, y no solo Pablo Neruda ha escrito sobre la mujer y bueno sus dudosos encuentros. De él me gusta muchísimo el poema Las Palabras.
Yo cuando leo poesía es cuando más comprendida me siento en el mundo, porque soy el extremo de la sensibilidad, me gusta verlo todo, comprenderlo todo, analizarlo todo. Claramente hay poemas que serán acertijos y que por dónde lo veas, todavía no lo entiendes 😅 eso igual se disfruta.
En conclusión, la poesía me hace creer en la humanidad. Lo cierto es que tu mirada del mundo cambia una vez que lees poemas porque en efecto es algo muy íntimo e intenso.
