Filosofía, web3.0 y disrupción

Mientras preparaba mi ponencia para la Caracas Blockchain Week me pasé por varios textos y artículos, apuntando ideas relevantes sobre la nueva generación del internet, web3.0 esta basado en la tecnología blockchain y filosóficamente propone un cambio de paradigma ya que posee el potencial de revolucionar la forma en la que interactuamos con la red y en la red.

Para entender el cambio que se esta gestando en este momento, ya que no es algo que va a ocurrir, sino que esta ocurriendo hay que comprender los principios de la filosofía de Web 3.0:

La Descentralización: La Web3 está diseñada para ser descentralizada de manera técnica, lo que significa esencialmente que no está controlada por una sola entidad. Esto contrasta de manera radical con la Web2, que está dominada por grandes empresas tecnológicas como Google, Facebook, Amazon y entre otras. ¿Pero de que va esta descentralización? Todo gira en torno a los datos, en web3 se almacenan de manera abierta y distribuida, teniendo como consecuencia directa que los datos ya no son un producto comercializable.
La Transparencia: La Web3 es transparente gracias a Blockchain, lo que significa que los datos están abiertos y accesibles para todos y como ya lo he mencionado estos quedan fuera del control y no juegan un papel en el control de la información. La transparencia pone sobre la mesa un panorama innovador ya que a medida que blockchain responda a este principio, los datos son eso, datos que están al alcance de todos.

While preparing my presentation for Caracas Blockchain Week, I went through several texts and articles, noting relevant ideas about the new generation of the internet, web3.0, which is based on blockchain technology and philosophically proposes a change of paradigm since it has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with the network and on the network.

To understand the change that is taking place at this moment, since it is not something that is going to happen, but that is happening, it is necessary to understand the principles of the philosophy of Web 3.0:

Decentralization: Web3 is designed to be decentralized technically, which essentially means that it is not controlled by a single entity. This contrasts radically with Web2, which is dominated by large technology companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, and others. But what is this decentralization about? Everything revolves around data, in web3 they are stored openly and distributed, with the direct consequence that the data is no longer a marketable product.
Transparency: Web3 is transparent thanks to Blockchain, which means that the data is open and accessible to everyone and, as I have already mentioned, they are outside the control and do not play a role in the control of information. Transparency puts an innovative scenario on the table since, as blockchain responds to this principle, the data is just that, data that is within reach of everyone.
Interoperability: Web3 is designed to be compatible with web2, which means that it will not replace web2, but will be built on top of it. Interoperability is a very important feature of web3, as it allows data to flow from one chain to another, meaning that the data is not locked in a single chain.

La Autogestión: La Web3 es autogestionada, lo que significa que las personas tienen el control de sus propios datos y activos. De cara a la Web2, donde los usuarios suelen ceder el control de sus datos a las empresas. Web3, regresa un aspecto importante la propiedad, como lo dije en mi ponencia, en un internet basado en la filosofía de web3 ya no nos podemos considerar simples usuarios, sino que pasamos a ser propietarios.

Aunque a simple vista estos principios no parezcan cosas demasiado grandes, tienen el potencial de generar importantes cambios en la sociedad, comenzando en la sociedad digital afectando asuntos como la economía de la atención. La descentralización representa un duro golpe al poder digital en manos de unos pocos, la transparencia mejora la confianza entre las personas, ya que en blockchain no hay nada oculto, web3 devuelve confianza en un entorno donde se había perdido y la autogestión empodera a las personas dándoles más control sobre sus vidas.

Self-Management: Web3 is self-managed, which means people have control of their own data and assets. Facing Web2, where users usually give up control of their data to companies. Web3, returns an important aspect of ownership, as I said in my presentation, in a web3-based internet we can no longer consider ourselves simple users, but we become owners.

Although at first glance these principles may not seem like big things, they have the potential to generate important changes in society, starting in the digital society affecting issues such as the attention economy. Decentralization represents a hard blow to the digital power in the hands of a few, transparency improves confidence between people, since in blockchain there is nothing hidden, web3 returns confidence in an environment where it had been lost and self-management empowers people by giving them more control over their lives.

¿Web3 es realmente un planteamiento disruptivo?

Todo cambio tecnológico es un fenómeno disruptivo, blockchain no queda por fuera de la regla. Web3 propone una nueva generación de internet trayendo consigo cambios realmente significativos, cambios que no solo se ciñen a lo digital sino que propone nuevos modos de pensar, de vivir y trabajar.

Web3 esta transformando de manera de interactuar dentro y fuera de la red, teniendo una repercusión directa en el lenguaje y así mismo transformando la forma en la que comprendemos al mundo. Hacer negocios ya no es igual, la política ya no es igual y se me ocurre una pregunta:

¿Acaso no serán más transparentes los procesos electorales con la
implementación de blockchain?

Es cierto que muchas cosas están ocurriendo en este momento, pero, web3 no es algo acabado, sino que aun esta en sus primeras etapas de desarrollo. Quizá no imaginamos toda la gama de posibilidades que abarcará web3 dentro de décadas, pero sin duda pienso que es algo que ha llegado para quedarse.

Is Web3 really a disruptive approach?

Every technological change is a disruptive phenomenon, blockchain is no exception to the rule. Web3 proposes a new generation of internet bringing with it really significant changes, changes that not only are limited to the digital but propose new ways of thinking, living and working.

Web3 is transforming the way we interact inside and outside the network, having a direct impact on language and thus transforming the way we understand the world. Doing business is not the same anymore, politics is not the same anymore and I wonder:

Won't the electoral processes be more transparent with the
implementation of blockchain?

It is true that many things are happening at this moment, but web3 is not something finished, but rather something that is still in its early stages of development. Perhaps we do not imagine the whole range of possibilities that web3 will encompass within decades, but without a doubt I think it is something that has come to stay.

Ahora bien, creo es importante considerar elementos claves en el cambio de paradigma que estamos vivenciando en primera persona al formar parte del desarrollo de web3. Uno de los aspectos que me parecen interesantes a nivel filosófico es el tema de inclusión, ya que sin duda alguna web3 tiene la capacidad de evadir las brechas digitales además de ser resistente a la censura. Blockchain es sin duda más accesible que la tecnología tradicional, la tarea recae en las personas que aúnan esfuerzos por optimizar las experiencias de usuario.

Otro de los factores moralmente interesantes es el recobrar la confianza, como blockchain elimina los terceros de confianza, junto a la naturaleza transparente de los datos y la información web3 devuelve la confianza en los entornos en los que había desaparecido. Ya que en un sistema tecnicamente descentralizado, y abierto hace mucho más difícil el engañar o explotar a quienes utilizan la web.

Now, I think it's important to consider key elements in the paradigm shift we are experiencing first-hand as part of web3 development. One of the aspects that I find philosophically interesting is the issue of inclusion, since without a doubt web3 has the ability to evade digital gaps as well as being resistant to censorship. Blockchain is undoubtedly more accessible than traditional technology, the task falls on the people who join forces to optimize user experiences.

Another of the morally interesting factors is regaining trust, as blockchain eliminates third-party trust, along with the transparent nature of data and web3 information, it returns trust in environments where it had disappeared. Since in a technically decentralized, and open system, it is much more difficult to deceive or exploit those who use the web.

La descentralización, la transparencia y la autogestión son principios que tienen el potencial de generar beneficios para la sociedad aunque sabemos que de entrada puede representar resistencia y retos, web3 es inevitable.

Creo que es el momento para que todos los que nos hacemos llamar entusiastas de web3 comuniquemos nuestras ideas, unamos esfuerzo, promovamos la educación y la difusión de información. Al final el conocimiento también puede pensarse como datos información ya discernidos, es por ello, que para poder producir conocimiento necesitamos que los datos de información estén realmente distribuidos.

Final words:

The philosophy of Web3 represents a significant and disruptive change in the way we think about the internet. Decentralization, transparency and self-management are principles that have the potential to generate benefits for society, even though we know that they can initially represent resistance and challenges. Web3 is inevitable.

I think it's time for all of us who call ourselves Web3 enthusiasts to communicate our ideas, join forces, promote education and the dissemination of information. In the end, knowledge can also be thought of as data that has already been processed and analyzed. That is why, in order to produce knowledge, we need data to be truly distributed.
