¡Por fin entendí el fenómeno del terraplanismo!
Saludos estimados lectores, hoy quiero compartir un artículo a modo de una opinión personal sobre un tema que creo puede ser algo controversial hasta cierto punto. Se trata sobre el terraplanismo y no es que definiré qué es o me centraré en desmontarlo, no se trata de eso, sino lo que intento es entender el por qué de este fenómeno desde un punto de vista filosófico.
Quizá te estés preguntando por que afirmo que ya entendí el terraplanismo, y no es que esté de acuerdo con sus presupuestos porque más allá de considerarlo una ciencia, creo que fenomenológicamente hablando tiene mucho sentido su razón de ser y con esto no quiero decir que este de acuerdo, o le apoye.
Qué pensarías si te pregunto ¿Creerías que la razón de ser del terraplanismo es develar lo erróneo y equivocado de nuestro sistema educativo?
Hoy nuestro sistema educativo no se centra en el desarrollo de pensamiento crítico, mucho menos en el aprender a demostrar las verdades científicas por nuestros medios, simplemente, se trata de transmitir "conocimientos" sin enseñar lo poderoso de la duda o ¿Acaso hoy se enseña cómo Eratóstenes calculó el diametro de la tierra hace más de 2000 años? No verdad, incluso, creo que nadie conoce a Eratóstenes.
Aunque antes de él ya se venía hablando de la redondez de la tierra, unos afirmaban que la tierra era esférica, porque la esfera era considerada la figura geometríca perfecta y los dioses solo podían crear cosas perfectas, quizá afirmaciones como estas fueron herencia de Parménides, otros como Aristóteles se basaban en la observación, pues eran concientes de cómo los barcos desaparecían hundiéndose en el horizonte. Pero, fue Eratóstenes quien se preguntó como podría demostrarlo matemáticamente hablando. No te diré cómo lo hizo, lo cierto es que tuvo una idea ingeniosa y simple, lo que le sirvió para demostrar el diámetro de la tierra, y que 2000 años después con toda la tecnología que tenemos hoy, sabemos que su calculo tuvo un error de menos del 1%, lo que me parece asombroso.
Mi pregunta para ti estimado lector es: ¿Podrías replicar el experimento de Eratóstenes? Puesto que Eratóstenes tuvo más que inteligencia, fue capacidad de razonar lógicamente.
Esto devela que la educación no parece enseñarnos a pensar críticamente ni a demostrar eso que se da por sabido, partiendo de la duda o del asombro y no es algo que esté ocurriendo precisamente hoy, sino que realmente ha venido ocurriendo desde hace muchos muchos años.
El terraplanismo más que ser una teoría científica o una corriente que apunta a la verdad, es el efecto de como muchas personas simplemente no poseen la capacidad de discernir críticamente. Creo que el terraplanismo nos exige un mayor acercamiento, no para defender sus postulados sino para comprender que, hay la necesidad de pensamiento crítico o como puede ser posible que hoy, aun estemos cuestionándonos si la tierra es plana o redonda, cuando en realidad debemos enfocarnos en otro tipo de cosas.
Aunque la tierra tampoco es que sea redonda técnicamente hablando, porque está achatada en los polos, por lo que redondo redondo no es. Creo que todo esto del terraplanismo es un llamado a cambiar, a hacer las cosas con criterios reales y que la educación no sea una cuestión de adoctrinamiento, sino que promueva la búsqueda real del conocimiento.
Pienso que en la escuela debería enseñarse el cómo Eratóstenes demostró el diámetro de la tierra e incentivar a los niños a hacer el experimento, y seguro muchas personas pensarán que aprender algo como eso es innecesario, que para qué demostrar lo que ya está demostrado y es que lo que se buscaría en ese caso no es la demostración en sí, sino el como llegar a la demostración, es decir, lo que realmente importa es el pensamiento lógico que hay detrás.

It is about terraplanism and it is not that I will define what it is or focus on dismantling it, it is not about that, but what I am trying to do is to understand the why of this phenomenon from a philosophical point of view.
Perhaps you are asking yourself why I affirm that I already understand terraplanism, and it is not that I agree with its presuppositions because beyond considering it a science, I believe that phenomenologically speaking its raison d'être makes a lot of sense, and with this I do not mean that I agree with it, or that I support it.
What would you think if I asked you, would you believe that the raison d'être of terraplanism is to unveil the erroneous and wrongness of our educational system?
Today our educational system is not focused on the development of critical thinking, much less on learning to demonstrate scientific truths by our means, it is simply about transmitting “knowledge” without teaching the power of doubt or how Eratosthenes calculated the diameter of the earth more than 2000 years ago? Not true, I don't even think anyone knows Eratosthenes.
Although before him they were already talking about the roundness of the earth, some claimed that the earth was spherical, because the sphere was considered the perfect geometric figure and the gods could only create perfect things, perhaps statements like these were inherited from Parmenides, others like Aristotle were based on observation, as they were aware of how the ships disappeared sinking on the horizon. But, it was Eratosthenes who wondered how he could demonstrate it mathematically speaking. I will not tell you how he did it, what is certain is that he had an ingenious and simple idea, which served him to demonstrate the diameter of the earth, and that 2000 years later with all the technology we have today, we know that his calculation had an error of less than 1%, which I find amazing.
My question to you dear reader is: Could you replicate Eratosthenes' experiment? Since Eratosthenes had more than intelligence, it was the ability to reason logically.
This reveals that education does not seem to teach us to think critically or to demonstrate that which is taken for granted, based on doubt or amazement, and this is not something that is happening precisely today, but has actually been happening for many many years.
Terraplanism, rather than being a scientific theory or a current that points to the truth, is the effect of how many people simply do not possess the ability to critically discern. I believe that terraplanism demands a closer approach, not to defend its postulates but to understand that there is a need for critical thinking or how it is possible that today we are still questioning whether the earth is flat or round, when in fact we should focus on other things.
Although the earth is not technically round either, because it is flattened at the poles, so round is not round. I think that all this terraplanism is a call to change, to do things with real criteria and that education should not be a matter of indoctrination, but should promote the real search for knowledge.
I think that the school should teach how Eratosthenes demonstrated the diameter of the earth and encourage children to do the experiment, and surely many people will think that learning something like that is unnecessary, that why demonstrate what is already demonstrated and what would be sought in that case is not the demonstration itself, but how to get to the demonstration, that is, what really matters is the logical thinking behind it.
