Hace unos días realice un post sobre dos saberes humanisticos de los cuáles soy profesor. Uno de estos es la teología, de la cual quiero compartirles hoy desde el punto de vista de su origen histórico, para desde el mismo, sacar algunas aplicaciones prácticas.
Inevitablemente al tratar este tema lo primero que hay que resaltar es la posibilidad misma del saber teológico, ya que parece algo no sólo osado sino que a primera vista también parece ofensivo para la divinidad. En efecto, ¿Quién puede definir a Dios?
He aquí donde el cristianismo tiene muchísimo para aportar, ya que para nosotros Cristo es el primer teólogo, es decir, quien siendo Dios se encarna y nos habla de Sí mismo, mostrándonos el rostro de Dios, cómo dice la Escritura: "Cristo es la imagen visible de Dios invisible" (Colosenses 1,15). Esto significa que la primera fuente de las ciencias teologicas la encontramos donde las palabras de Cristo se recogen de manera especial, y es aquí donde precisamente podemos hablar de la Biblia. Lo cual a su vez da un terreno común de diálogo con otras religiones, llamadas del libro, cómo lo son el judaísmo y el islam.
De esta manera, pudiésemos afirmar que el primer origen histórico de la teología tiene que ver con el mismo origen de la Biblia, la cual también tiene su historia. Evidentemente, no se trata de que la Biblia nos ofrezca una teología totalmente elaborada, no, lo que se quiere decir es que en ella nos encontramos con las bases y fundamentos de lo que la teología quiere desarrollar: la concepción de Dios y toda la realidad que Él mismo ilumina.

Luego de la muerte y resurrección de Jesucristo, Él confía la transmisión de su vida y mensaje a los 12 Apóstoles, así como el antiguo Israel estuvo edificada sobre 12 tribus. De hecho, de algunos de ellos nos vienen libros de la Biblia (Mateo, Juan, Santiago, etc.). Ahora bien, el valor de la teología - tal como la estamos desarrollando aquí - está en que nos explica el sentido actual del mensaje cristiano. Con la muerte de los Apóstoles, ¿A quién le correspondería esta tarea?
Y es aquí donde podemos notar una segunda etapa de este origen histórico de la teología, ya que nos podemos encontrar con personas y escritos anónimos que en un primer momento van fortaleciendo las bases del mensaje y luego lo van desarrollando, sobretodo según las exigencias de cada época.
Sobre este tema particular es una de mis clases, la cual trata sobre la materia de "Patristica" que es el estudio de la vida, obra y doctrina de los llamados "Padres de la Iglesia", en el sentido de que por sus enseñanzas y lo que nos transmitieron van dando orígen y forma a la teología.

Al menos, un par de aplicaciones de todo lo dicho siento que puedo compartir:
- En la teología es más importante lo que Dios dice de Sí mismo en Cristo que lo que nosotros podamos elaborar. De allí lo fundamental que es la centralidad de la Biblia como testimonio escrito de su vida, mensaje y ministerio.
Uno de los puntos fuertes de esto es que la Biblia no es un libro científico como los que conocemos hoy sino un conjunto de libros donde se nos transmite un mensaje de salvación, de esto trata la teología: explicar dicho mensaje.
- La teología se alimenta y crece en el tiempo. Esto es así porque desde el principio han existido personas que han reflexionado sobre el mensaje divino que se nos ha transmitido. Pero no sólo eso, sino que a medida que pasan las épocas la manera de acercarse al mismo brinda un matiz diferente o hace resaltar unas características particulares, lo cual permite hablar de un tesoro de pensamiento teológico que vale la pena destacar y de vez en cuando volver a él.
Aquí es donde yo me baso para defender que más que repetir un pensamiento teológico o seguirlo al pie de la letra, es tener espíritu crítico ante el mismo, esto es, de qué manera es aplicable el mismo en nuestro tiempo. Por eso, hablar del origen histórico de la teología me gusta ya que no es un simple mirar al pasado sino que también es un construir con sus aportes el hoy y proyectar un mejor futuro.

A few days ago I made a post about two humanistic knowledge of which I am a professor. One of these is theology, which I would like to share with you today from the point of view of its historical origin, in order to draw some practical applications from it.
Inevitably, when dealing with this topic, the first thing to highlight is the very possibility of theological knowledge, since it seems something not only daring but also, at first sight, offensive to the divinity. Indeed, who can define God?
This is where Christianity has a great deal to contribute, since for us Christ is the first theologian, that is, the one who, being God, becomes incarnate and speaks to us about Himself, showing us the face of God, as Scripture says: "Christ is the visible image of the invisible God" (Colossians 1:15). This means that the first source of the theological sciences is to be found where the words of Christ are collected in a special way, and it is precisely here that we can speak of the Bible. This in turn provides a common ground for dialogue with other so-called religions of the book, such as Judaism and Islam.
In this way, we could affirm that the first historical origin of theology has to do with the origin of the Bible itself, which also has its history. Evidently, it is not that the Bible offers us a fully elaborated theology, no, what is meant is that in it we find the bases and foundations of what theology wants to develop: the conception of God and all the reality that He Himself illuminates.

On this particular topic is one of my classes, which deals with the subject of "Patristics" which is the study of the life, work and doctrine of the so-called "Fathers of the Church", in the sense that their teachings and what they transmitted to us are giving origin and shape to theology.

I feel I can share at least a couple of applications of what I have said:
- In theology it is more important what God says about Himself in Christ than what we can elaborate. Hence the centrality of the Bible as the written testimony of His life, message and ministry is fundamental.
One of the strong points of this is that the Bible is not a scientific book like the ones we know today but a set of books where a message of salvation is transmitted to us, and this is what theology is all about: explaining that message.
- Theology feeds and grows in time. This is so because from the beginning there have been people who have reflected on the divine message that has been transmitted to us. But not only that, but as the ages go by, the way of approaching it gives a different nuance or brings out some particular characteristics, which allows us to speak of a treasure of theological thought that is worth highlighting and from time to time returning to it.
This is where I base myself to defend that more than repeating a theological thought or following it to the letter, it is to have a critical spirit before it, that is, in what way it is applicable in our time. For this reason, I like to talk about the historical origin of theology because it is not a simple look at the past, but it is also a way to build today with its contributions and to project a better future.
