How a 6-Month Internship Became a Lifetime Memory #Throwback Friday

Watch my Experience on 3speak 🤗📽

👇🏼

It was exactly 1:30 AM this morning, I couldn't sleep so I was playing with my phone and decided to look through my gallery and then I saw a picture of me from last year(March 2024) when I did my Internship at a Civil Engineering Company (Consulting) and I couldn't help but smile.

I began to remember the adventures, struggles, the beautiful people I met and the growth I had during the whole 6 months of my internship. Seeing those memories made a lot of feelings rush so I just picked up my laptop and began typing this post.

First Day of Internship

This picture was taken March 2024, it was my first day at being an intern. At first I was a bit nervous because I have never been in an official workspace before. I was introduced to the whole staff and the other interns.

I Met a Beautiful Soul

Tolu was the first intern I met, she showed me everywhere and taught me how to do so many things.

Okay, I won't lie, I was very troublesome 😂. She had a unique taste in music but I was always running my mouth and teasing her. She listened to songs from a band called Maverick a lot so I nicknamed her Maverick 😁😂.

Construction Site Experience

Date of Picture: September, 2024

We had spent months working on structural drawings in the office but I never had site experience. All interns were tasked to be on site and work. I learnt to interpret structural drawings on-site, I observed the batching plant where concrete was mixed and as you can see in the picture below, I was measuring the reinforcements to be sure the iron benders inserted the right specification of reinforcements.

Food Appreciation Moment

I was on my laptop working on an Architectural drawing when I saw them sharing food. It was the Director's birthday and he decided to give food to everyone in the office.

I was so thrilled that I left my laptop and abandoned all work 🤣. I picked Pounded Yam and Ewedu soup, my favorite food.

I am sure @samostically will be smiling seeing that Ewedu 😁😅 #We rep Yoruba boys.

Structural Engineering Growth

I learnt so much being in a consulting firm. I learnt to perform laboratory procedures to test the quality of materials. It included destructive testing on concrete cubes to obtain the compressive strength of concrete and also tensile strength test on reinforcements.

Laboratory Work

I also learnt to use BIM software's like AutoCAD and Revit to model both Architectural and Structural Drawings.

The Touching Part

I was treated so well that even on my birthday, the company got me a cake and celebrated my birthday with me. I just walked up to my desk in the morning and saw a cake waiting for me. It was so happy that day.

Final Note

I think this post is getting too long already 😂. I really enjoyed sharing my experiences in this community. I was literally smiling as I was uploading the pictures and writing this post.
