Yesterday evening, while I was browsing through my photo albums on my phone, I came across a photo of a legendary apple pie topped with a scoop of ice cream. It wouldn't have been such a significant pie on its own, but the circumstances in which it was eaten, of course by me, and the people who were with me, have remained in my memory to this day. We sometimes joke about the fact that I have eaten that pie just by myself however maybe the others were just too shy to try it (or they saw the level of my hunger and felt pity so let me the whole dessert). Btw, this photo appeared in this post, although a lot of time passed since then.
Those days we spent in that city in Poland were certainly exceptional and memorable. A Hive meetup in the city of Krakow, in October of 2023. It was only yesterday evening when I stumbled upon this picture and saw all the other photos that I realized that I had never shared all of that with you. I did write about that great event, HiveBeeCon that happened on Saturday (October 7) and the visit to Wieliczka Salt Mine, but we stayed there until Tuesday. The places we visited ourselves remained unshared. I think it is time to dust off those photos and memories, so today, for this Throwback Thursday, I am sharing the first day of our stay in Krakow.
It was Friday. We were quite tired as we almost didn't sleep the night before; we had to wake up at 3:30 am and go to the airport to catch our early morning flight. But once in Krakow, we were happy and excited about the meetings with other Hivers so my headache and fatigue didn't get major importance. Our accommodation was not so far from the city centre but we had to cross this Gothic tower, St. Florian's Gate each time we wanted to walk through the historic centre.
Krakow reminded me of the city where I studied... probably because of the many young people and the culture and art that could be felt on every corner.
Passing through this street, we met Edje on the main square by the fountain. He was waiting for us, not because we were extremely late but I think he arrived earlier and just enjoyed the early afternoon sun.
We didn't have a strict plan (apart from an agreed meeting later with LUT and her husband) but we more or less calculated the time we would need to get to the river and come back to the city centre on time for our coffee & apple pie meeting. We took Grodzka Street, all the way to the castle and the river. We passed by an impressive building: it was Saints Peter and Paul Church (Kościół Świętych Apostołów Piotra i Pawła w Krakowie).
Very close to this church, a few steps away, there was another one too; The Church of St. Andrew (Kościół św. Andrzeja w Krakowie). We didn't have a guide with us but luckily we didn't get lost. It was easy to follow this street and in the end, we were sure that we arrived at the castle. The towers and the walls could not be missed.
That day we didn't enter The Wawel Royal Castle; we made that visit on Monday and just followed our route down to the river.
Sitting by The Vistula River and chatting with our Hive friend was cool but I started to feel the cold of the concrete stairs and hunger... Haha, I think it is my leitmotif 😂.
We headed back to the centre to meet more Hivers and then the photo from the beginning of the post was taken. You all know that story already. :D
Did we stay in that coffee shop until the evening? Could be, because the next photos were already taken when it was dark. The next day, Saturday was an important one so we didn't stay for a long time there around, we needed to rest well and get ready for the main event.
Horses and carriages were ready for princesses. Oh, since I am not one of them, no ride for me; 😂 my feet carried me to our accommodation.
How many memories are awakened by photographs... places, feelings, moods and even cold or heat... whatever we have felt. I remember that post, I remember it well. What beautiful pictures of these buildings you took that day, I love them! You are a princess! Because I say so hahaha
Hahaha, isn't it because I adopted Prince Hefromund? 😂 Actually, I brought him from that place, from Krakow :)

But if you are the piano princess, where is your carriage? Maybe it got disoriented when you ate all that pie all by yourself haha 😂
What beautiful architecture, surely I would have been distracted by all that and forgotten why I went there haha sorry 👀
Piano princess lol 😂 Maybe it was already midnight so I had to run, like Cinderella 😂 I couldn't wait for that missing carriage to appear.
