It's hard to believe it's been a year since I completed my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. Seeing my friends' posts about their own experiences brought back memories. I had almost forgotten about this milestone until I saw their statuses and pictures. That's when I rushed to dig out my own NYSC photos and started posting.
While some people think NYSC should be scrapped, I believe it has its advantages. One of the benefits is the opportunity to travel to other states and experience different cultures. I was posted to a state outside my own, and it was an eye-opening experience. I got to meet new people, make connections, and even discover new interests.
It was during NYSC that I met someone who introduced me to Hive, which has been a game-changer for me. I've connected with like-minded individuals, learned from their experiences, and even found new opportunities.
I also had the chance to try new foods, like Ogbono soup, which I had never tasted before. And, I rekindled my passion for baking through the SAED program. Who would have thought that I'd become a certified baker? It's been a rewarding experience, and I'm grateful for the opportunity.
Additionally, I registered for a human resources management class, which I had always wanted to take. I'm now a certified human resources manager, and I feel empowered to take on new challenges.
During my service year, I was also able to join the NDLEA volunteer CDS group. We organized a program to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse. It was a rewarding experience, and I'm proud of the impact we made.
One of the most memorable experiences during my NYSC service year was when our CDS group organized a visit to a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities. Our goal was to educate them about the dangers of drug abuse and how it can affect their lives.
Another unexpected benefit of my NYSC experience was the professional connections I made. One of the officers I met during my service year has become a loyal customer and friend. We've kept in touch over the years, and I've had the privilege of supplying her with cakes for various occasions.
In fact, I'm thrilled to share that I'll be making her wedding cake in May! It's a huge honor, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a part of her special day. It's moments like these that remind me of the power of networking and building genuine relationships.
My NYSC experience taught me that relationships and connections can lead to unexpected opportunities and benefits. I'm grateful for the experience and the people I met along the way.
While I acknowledge the risks associated with NYSC, particularly regarding insecurity, I believe serving in one's home state could help mitigate these risks. Many corps members have lost their lives in accidents or due to insecurity, and it's heartbreaking. However, accidents and danger can happen to anyone, anywhere.
As I reflect on my NYSC experience, I'm grateful for the opportunities I had, the people I met, and the skills I acquired. It's been a transformative experience, and I'm proud to have served my country.

I don't think NYSC should be scrapped, too because it's a life changer for many people who choose to see it that way. Nysc indeed got you lots of opportunities and I love how you took everything and learnt from them. Nysc is all about connections and I love it.
Yes sis, Thank you
