Como persona creativa, he tenido que aprender a flexibilizar mi pensamiento y a tener una mente más abierta.
Esto no fue un proceso fácil, ya que vengo de una familia conservadora, así que habían conceptos que fácilmente eran rechazados por mi mente de manera automática. Sin embargo, la vida me puso en situaciones donde tuve que aprender a escuchar y aceptar que habían otras visiones y formas de entender la vida muy diferentes a las que me habían enseñado, y que el hecho de reconocerlas no implicaba necesariamente que las tuviera que aceptar como propias si sentía que no iban cónsonas con mi esencia.
Esto fue un paso importante para poder darle libertad a mi proceso creativo y abrirme a las infinitas posibilidades que pudieran surgir para crear personajes e historias nuevas.
Últimamente, he estado viendo muchos anime de historias de robots (mecha). En una de esas historias, específicamente en el anime Daiku Maryu Gaiking, conocido en Latinoamerica como El Gladiador, se habla de una invasión alienígena debido a que la estrella donde habitaban ellos estaba siendo absorbida por un agujero negro y estaban condenados a la extinción.
Eso me hizo pensar mucho en la duda existencial que casi todo el mundo se plantea: ¿Habrá vida en otros planetas?
Yo particularmente pienso que es bastante vanidoso pensar que en un universo infinito, con incontables sistemas planetarios, estrellas, planetas, exoplanetas, etc., no exista otro tipo de vida y que los únicos privilegiados hemos sido los humanos.
Tal vez, la vida como tal que conocemos, no sea la misma que exista en otros lugares. Tal vez son microscópicos, invisibles, espirituales, etc., y por eso aún no los hemos descubierto.
Viene la razón a decir “es que no se han encontrado planetas con yacimientos de agua como en la Tierra y ese es el origen de la vida”. Sí, es el origen de la vida…pero en nuestro planeta. ¿Qué pasaría si ellos no necesitaran oxígeno como nosotros para vivir? El agua es necesaria porque nuestro cuerpo la requiere para seguir funcionando y porque de ella se desprende el oxígeno. ¿Qué tal si ellos no la necesitaran?
Con esas dudas, empecé a buscar en internet, ya que soy una apasionada de la investigación y el aprendizaje auto didacta.
Encontré que una rama de la astronomía, la astrobiología, ya considera esta idea. Los científicos están abiertos a la posibilidad de que la existencia de vida en otros planetas pueda estar basada en el uso de otros elementos, compuestos o solventes distintos al oxígeno.
Esto lo hacen en base a ciertas consideraciones:
1.- Ambientes extremos: Se ha descubierto que microorganismos son capaces de sobrevivir en ambientes extremos en la Tierra como en el caso de las aguas termales, ambientes altamente ácidos o salinos por lo que esto abre la ventana de la posibilidad que en otros planetas, las criaturas u organismos puedan sobrevivir en ambientes que serían hostiles para nosotros vivir.
2.- Solventes alternativos: Se especula sobre la posibilidad que solventes líquidos como el metano o el amoníaco pueden servir como medio para reacciones bioquímicas.
3.- Investigación teórica y práctica: Ya que aún está muy distante la posibilidad de ir a un ambiente real para comprobar en sitio, se hacen experimentos en laboratorios para explorar si es posible la vida en ambientes bioquímicos distintos al nuestro.
Quedé con mucha curiosidad por el tema, que tal vez me lleve a hacer algún manga sobre esto. ¡Y pensar que todo inició viendo un anime!

As a creative person, I have had to learn to flexibilize my thinking and have a more open mind.
This was not an easy process, as I come from a conservative family, so there were concepts that were easily rejected by my mind automatically. However, life put me in situations where I had to learn to listen and accept that there were other visions and ways of understanding life very different from those I had been taught, and recognizing them did not necessarily imply that I had to accept them as my own if I felt they were not in line with my essence.
This was an important step to give freedom to my creative process and open myself to the infinite possibilities that could arise to create new characters and stories.
Lately, I have been watching many anime stories about robots (mecha). This made me think a lot about the existential doubt that almost everyone considers: Is there life on other planets?
I particularly think that it is quite vain to think that in an infinite universe, with countless planetary systems, stars, planets, exoplanets, etc., there is no other type of life and that humans have been the only privileged ones.
Perhaps, life as we know it may not be the same as that which exists in other places. Perhaps they are microscopic, invisible, spiritual, etc., and that is why we have not yet discovered them.
The reason comes to say "it is that no planets with water deposits have been found like on Earth and that is the origin of life." Yes, it is the origin of life... but on our planet. What if they did not need oxygen like us to live? Water is necessary because our body requires it to keep functioning and because oxygen is released from it. What if they did not need it?
With these doubts, I started searching on the internet, as I am passionate about self-taught research and learning.
I found that a branch of astronomy, astrobiology, already considers this idea. Scientists are open to the possibility that the existence of life on other planets may be based on the use of other elements, compounds, or solvents different from oxygen.
They do this based on certain considerations:
- Extreme environments: It has been discovered that microorganisms are capable of surviving in extreme environments on Earth, such as in the case of hot springs, highly acidic or saline environments, so this opens the window of possibility that on other planets, creatures or organisms could survive in environments that would be hostile for us to live in.
- Alternative solvents: There is speculation about the possibility that liquid solvents such as methane or ammonia could serve as a medium for biochemical reactions.
- Theoretical and practical research: Since the possibility of going to a real environment to check on-site is still very distant, experiments are being conducted in laboratories to explore whether life is possible in biochemical environments different from ours.
I was very curious about the topic, which may lead me to create a manga about it. And to think that it all started by watching an anime!
